Also, the later Miss Misery is like a lot of pop songs... you treat me like shit... but I'll take you back. | I agree with the general comments... the bit with the girl saying "No go" is a bit confusing... perhaps she is speaking to a friend of hers (maybe a local leader) who is considering revolution. And "she'd like too" because she has seen him, but she says "no go" because if they lose this person/leader everything will be lost. The idea is that they want revolution and freedom, but it really isn't going to work because, despite Banana Co being bad... they need it. | |

The suicide interpretation is stupid. It works, but not as well as the interpretation of someone dying for some other reason. He wouldn't say this has been the most perfect day if he meant death... death doesn't take a day. Death takes just a moment. I might buy your interpretation a little bit if he said that that this is the most perfect moment. This song is obviously about someone who loves life and loves what he must give up, so he is leaving this tape... I think to his son or daughter so they will no because they are too young for him to say good-bye face to face to. There isn't a single lyric in this song that says he is depresed... you are projecting because you want to see it for some reason. |

| I mostly agree with jimmy... but the song in and of itself makes more sense as a father leaving a tape for his children because he is going to die. He is speaking to them "after it's too late" (This is from the original version of the song), after his death, on the videotape--this was from a movie by the way. He made this tape to show his children the "good days" when he had them. Certainly his children would be his "center when [he] spins away" possibly thinking about killing himself becasue of his condition. I think about a father with some terminal condition playing with his kids for the last time:" the most perfect day he has ever seen". That is why he is not afraid to face his death. This makes a lot more sense then him just randomly leaving after today, being the most perfect day he spent with a GF. | |

| This song is about having someone in your life doing drugs and you being unable to stop it. You try your best to talk with them, but they just scream back at you. When it's talking about losing a friend it could mean he's just not around because he's into drugs. Or it could mean he actually died because of his addiction. My freind ODed on coke while I was downstairs with his Aunt and I found him in the bathroom bleeding. What's erie is that after that happened I didn't sleep for four days--somehow I thought if I didn't sleep then he wouldn't really be dead. But I know just what they are talking about... wanting more then anything to save the person but not being able to. | |

| Did anyone notice the gloves part? That doesn't fit with cutting at all... there is no reason to wear gloves while cutting. So while the song certainly does seem to fit with cutting ( and is what I think of when I listen to it)... the nail thing seems more likely given that glove line. Also "mittens in summertime"... again talking about hiding marks on the HANDS. | |

I think that is just so obvious... if you take too much of an opiate you vomit...So yes Lereya... that is what he is talking about. (( I have never taken H, but a bunch of my freinds have)) I love this song so much. I have dealt with addiction for a while and have had those mornings when I looked around and thought "this is not my life". And when he talks about the cold comfort of the in between, I get goosbumps. Also, when he talks about it being a little less than a suicid--i have been there. |

| Her ex is definetly doing drugs, though i'm not sure from the lyrics that her ex's new relationship is just drugs. If this were the case I don't think she would say "if she didn't empty her syringes into your arm". If it is supposed to be just a general metaphor for drugs it would be hacky to use this reference, and Ani is more clever than that. I think of it as a song about her ex breaking up and starting to hang out with this girl who either got her hooked on dope or is still doing it with her. | |

I love the "and i have earned my disillusionment i have been working all of my life and i am a patriot i have been fighting the good fight" I often get attacked for being unamerican or against my country because of my views, which I often find funny but also kind of resent. I do often fight the good fight and for little thanks--been called some pretty awful things while escorting women into abortion clinics. Anyway the whole song is great, but I love that little portion. |

| Ok, I am a huge Ani Fan... but to say that she is not Angry is crazy... for example, have you heard Dilate? Now it is fair to say she is not angry all the time... or not angry anymore...but she definetly taps into some serious anger inside through her music and that is what makes some of her songs so powerful. Most good artists have some form of hardship or frustration that allows them to make music and right lyrics that really go beyond. | |
