To me, it seems like the story is told from the perspective of someone raised as a fundamentalist Christian. It tells of all the different things he hates because he was raised to. Two of the big examples are hatred of the rapper in the Lexus, and forcing himself to fall in love with a girl. You could interpret it a lot of different ways, except for the last stanza: "But I'm still down with JC" -- Jesus Christ. The second to last line equates the hating of everything else with the hating of oneself. And then the last line: "And that's why I'm a humanist" -- in other words, "I'm a humanist because I don't like the attitude that Christ followers have about all this other stuff." At least, that's how I hear it. |
