Michael Jackson – Childhood Lyrics 16 years ago
The poignant lyrics provide insight into the tragic life of Michael Jackson. Several lines are particularly heartwrenching:

"People say I'm not okay, 'Cause I love such elementary things...It's been my fate to compensate, for childhood I've never known...Before you judge me, try hard to love me.."

In his pleas for understanding, he reveals self-awareness of how his life was peculiar and eccentric du to his attempts to regain his childhood. Thrust into performing and a public life practically since birth, his life really was devoid of a childhood. He was formed, admired, then ridiculed by the media and greater public. I find it hard to castigate an individual who lost so much innocence early on without anyone or anyplace in which to find shelter from the world.

His recent death has left me with such a lasting feeling of sadness. I hope in death he is somehow able to find the acceptance and love that eluded him in life. The profound sadness that surrounds his life should be a reminder that we should all be a little kinder and accepting of our fellow man despite how different they may be. We have no idea what burdens they bear or trauma they've suffered along the way resulting in who they are now.

Rob Thomas – Little Wonders Lyrics 17 years ago
This song really resonates with me right now. I just failed miserably at something I wanted very much and this song came to mind. I was wallowing in my self-pity and could hear Rob Thomas's advice of, "let it slide, let your troubles fall behind you.." and realized that that's what I need to do. His statement that "our lives are made in these small hours" gives me some strength knowing that failures and crappy moments like what I'm experiencing don't define us. It's the little things we do when no one is looking are what the measure of our days will be based upon. Our response to moments of tragedy or failure is what will define us. These things are what will remain with us.

Alicia Keys – No One Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is a declaration of love---whether for a lover, family member, or friend is immaterial. It's a testament for someone she loves dearly that the world will change but will not change them and as a result, "everything is going to be all right." She assures that they will not only weather the storms "through the days and nights," but that things will, "only get better," because they have something real and tangible in their unconditional love for each other. Life is always a little kinder when you know that someone is waiting at home for you with a love that you can return to when life gets harsh. This song is nothing short of beautiful. Furthermore, the ache and strength with which she sings adds much depth to the words.

Nick Lachey – What's Left Of Me Lyrics 19 years ago
MilliondollarBaby: I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt Nick Lachey is lifting lyrics from Tupac. Don't get me wrong, Tupac was very talented and many have tried to emulate him but I just don't see Mr. Boyband finding his pop song lyrics from Tupac.

Sarah McLachlan – World On Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
My heart breaks watching the video. It gave me pause and made me think about how we have so much in America but often appreciate so little. The video is a good reminder to think twice the next time we spend an exorbitant amount of money on a designer pair of jeans or the like. The money that we spend on unnecessary items can be used in much more meaningful ways if we spared some of it for those suffering in parts of the world that we don't care to think about. I've always felt a tinge of guilt when I read about or saw people living in squalor while I live so comfortably but have never done anything substantial about it. I applaud Sarah Mclachlan for reminding me and hopefully others to live by the conviction of our morals.
I live in a part of California were there is so much excess and materialism. A place where people have multiple homes and luxury cars but wouldn't spare any time or money for people less fortunate than themselves. It makes me think of a quote from a man who spent his fortune building homes for the indigent. When questioned by the reporter about his motivation to do what he did, he eloquently responded, "I don't think anyone should have a second home until everyone has a home." For me, that is true divinity.

Nick Lachey – What's Left Of Me Lyrics 19 years ago
A little cheesy...probably, but it seems heartfelt (after seeing his MTV special). He seemed like a man who was deeply wounded and confused about all that happened in his relationship with Jessica. Ultimately, whether his emotions are contrived or real, we'll never know for sure. The words and emotions he expresses in his song rings true about the tumult of emotions someone can feel when they lose the love of their life. It's even harder when your relationship and breakup are such public affairs. I think he handled the dissolution of his marriage very well considering how the world had a window to his personal hurt. Ultimately, I comend him for an artistic expression of a painful time in his life.

Keane – Somewhere Only We Know Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with everyone else who said this is a great song. The first time I heard it, it instantly appealed to me. For me, this song is about an attempt to honestly assess his relationship with his significant other. It seems he is asking her where their relationship really is headed and if there's a future between them.

"I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin"
Much time has passed since he's known her or he's just a point in his life that he needs a sincere love that he can truly count on. However, he knows that what he feels might not be reciprocated and what he now needs she might not be able to give him. He acknowledges, "This could be the end of everything." He might have to face the reality that what he believed he had was imagined. Even when he wistfully wishes that he could return to "somewhere only we know," that that special place might have been imagined (He very well might have been referring to a literal place but I interpeted it as more of a metaphor). Coming across the fallen tree, he wonders, "Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?" Is this all the remains of the love we had or is this what it always was...a fallen tree that would never become anything more. It seems he's just a man trying to see his relationship for what it truly is.

Coldplay – Fix You Lyrics 19 years ago
It seems that Chris Martin is saying that life can be hard and unpredictable. Sometimes you fail at something you wanted oh so very much or lose someone that you love deeply and you hurt so much that all you can do is cry. At that moment, all that you may want is to hold onto something true and hope that it will remain that way.

This song reminds us that we will all have periods of pain and loss that dominate our lives but there are also things of beauty that we can count on. Some things in life are unbreakable and don't go away..and this is unconditional love from someone who will hold a light to guide you through the darkness. Someone who will do all that they can to piece together the broken pieces of your being.
