I've always thought this as well, that the man about to die is trying to show bravado towards to those around him, and to idea he'll have to face judgement once he's dead. He thinks if keeps repeating that he's not afraid to die, that it will actually end up being true. The last line could be seen as an admission of guilt for his crime, but equally could also be an admission that his claims the whole way through of not being afraid to die, was him lying to himself. |
