| Cake – The Distance Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Even though it was clearly not intended, I love how well this song works as a retelling of "Tell Laura I Love Her" as seen from Tommy's perspective instead of Laura's. While time moves on for everyone else, he is trapped in a perpetual last moment before his car crashed and killed him. http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858674586/ |

| Nationalteatern – Kolla Kolla Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Improved translation into English: (less literal, Swedish rhymes spelled out, localized ("south-parkalized") nonsense chorus) When you're born into the working class And you do a couple of drug deals And you already have a previous conviction Of course you'll get caught Now and then I want to feel free, free, free That's my philosophy, phy, phy Check it out, I'm a decent guy Even though I might be in prison today You'll have to agree that That's not what I intended No, I'll take the first job I can get With a leather recliner and a phone line of my own As soon as I get out of here Or so I thought, I'm such an idiot I thought I was strong ("stark") But I ended up in a park ("park") Getting by by selling..... [drugs] ("knark") Derp de derp de diddly Oompa pa It's not allowed! No good! Derp de derp de diddly Oompa pa That's what I said It's no good! How idiotic, tic, tic Selling some product Check it out, I've got myself to blame Even though I might not like these facilities You'll have to agree It's filling a function The criminal justice system makes an example of you, Breaks you and labels you So when I get out of here My heart aches, it stings like a knife ("dolk") When you meet up with some folks ("folk") And roll yourself a big fat..... [spliff] ("holk") Derp de derp de diddly Oompa pa ... But if you choose the straight and narrow And work hard in this society of criminals As long as you're cheap and thrifty Some day you'll be a millionaire To the extent You ever get out of here Take a loan at the bank Move to Skanör Struggle to operate a factory ("fabrikör") And live until you.... [die] ("dör") Okay, kay, kay Take a look at me, me me Check it out, I'm already marked for life Even if I ever get out You'll have to agree It's not too easy being diligent, hard-working and decent I might as well drive straight into the river So when I get out of here In a stolen Amazon I'll spend that first day ("dan") Barging into town ("stan") And party hard as.... [fuck] ("fan") Derp de derp de diddly Oompa pa ... LolTheForce: snyggt, fast du behöver komma ut mer om du inte uppfattade holk-rimmet ^_~ |

| Eminem – Deja Vu Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Finally a song that's on a par with later songs like When I'm Gone and Mockingbird. I don't care much for the "early Eminem", which most of this album so far seems to have been trying to get back to. | |
| Rammstein – Seemann (English) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I like this song a lot even though it is probably the Rammstein song I have the most trouble understanding, I haven't a clue what it's about. But since nobody else has mentioned it - am I the only one is reminded of the Flying Dutchman? It might fit much of the lyrics. The captain is so sure of himself (der beste Seeman war doch ich) that he refuses to avoid the storm even if he has to keep sailing until Judgment Day (die Zeit steht still) and he also had a son, whose mother could be the mother in the lyrics... | |
| The Cure – Lullaby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song is based on a nightmare Robert Smith had after reading a poem while being high on drugs, in which he was a spider who forced himself upon Mary Jane in her childhood and had oral sex with her. | |
| Billie Holiday – Gloomy Sunday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I like Heather Nova's version the best. I hate the fact that the last verse is in there. For more info on the myths surrounding the song visit http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/gloomy.htm | |
| Nine Inch Nails – We're in This Together Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Don't give a stuff if it's about heroin, it's still one of the best love songs I know. It seems from the lines about killing what we found and hating what they fear, it's about a gay couple. It's a much more cheerful gay love song than that pop song "Disease" anyway. | |
| Finntroll – Skogens Hämnd Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The lyrics are kind of chaotic, not only in subject but also in grammar =) The forest is alive, takes no prisoners It takes mother, daughter and father No mercy, none left behind Pus flows through every little wound Villagers disappear, nobody knows where Around them stands the forest, silent and black The end draws near, the wise men see Signs in the sky, preachers pray The sloth of death lurks in the forest Hiding behind every fir Fiery lights on the bridge to heaven (or something...) The revenge of the forest throne commences There is nowhere to hide Wherever you go, the forest will find you The whole world is rotting and starving Everything you believed in, watch the lie crumble Now put down runes with magical figures Predict an era of woes and suffering When dark shadows ride the skies The time of the hunt is at hand |

| Finntroll – Jaktens Tid Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Excellent. In that case: "... The village is quiet, a starlit night ... ... A distant fire is seen, for they are drawing near ... The king of trolls rides forth To hunt with his wolven brother Everything living flees, friend and foe Blood will soak these secluded grounds From the darkness in his eternal halls He goes out with a thirst to quench They are hurried forth on crooked legs Many lives to take, a hundred bones to break The party of the trollmaster tear their way through gloomy forests and frozen mountains They slay what they see and find everything hidden Heads will soon adorn their holy rock (hm) The area is gloomy and dark The sun rises, there is no life left Below ground they celebrate a successful hunt Once again silence reigns for centuries (Woe betide you, human, you are trespassing The trolls will soon drag you to the rock ...)" It could also mean "hearth", instead of "rock", but I dunno. |

Does this thing let me insert line breaks all over the place? |

| Kent – Mannen i den vita hatten (16 år senare) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| And the reason it works better in Swedish, for those interested, is that he's "scared to life" of living, and scared to death of dying. But I don't think I've ever heard the word "dödsrädd" used anywhere else, just like one does not really say "scared to life" in English =) | |
| Rammstein – Stein um Stein (English) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Rammstein writes the best love ballads EVER. | |
| Rammstein – Spieluhr (English) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I like the way the kid seems so innocent and, well, kid-ish. I mean, if I woke up one morning to find myself six feet under in a coffin, I would *not* break out in song. By the way, is this like the only Rammstein song that has a happy ending? =P | |
| Rammstein – Nebel (English) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I always thought the part about the wind was a poetic way of describing how her voice was drowned in the sound of the blowing wind. She wanted to tell him but also could not, so she whispered it and he did not hear. (Like in that other song by that totally other band, which is about something totally different! "Remember the first time I told you I loved you? It was raining hard and you never heard") | |
| Rammstein – Klavier Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I ilke the subtle and also dramatic difference between "und wenn ihr Spiel begann hielt ich den Atem an" and "und als mein Spiel begann hielt sie den Atem an". It would not work as well in English, but the first one is more general, the second referring to one specific occasion. Which would be when he killed her. I also like the line "man löst sie vom Klavier", it somehow brings into my mind a vivid image of the corpse. This must be my favorite by Rammstein. |

| Rammstein – Hilf Mir Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| They really like singing the words "Haut und Haar", don't they? | |
