Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is fantastic. The meaning seems so clear to me. Obviously on the surface it is talking about the french revolution, but underneath there are so many more levels. I think he is saying that living "the life" (viva la vida) is a horrible place to be once you are there. You change into a different and worse person under the power and fame. Maybe he feels like he has left some of his beliefs about how a person should be behind on his journey to fame and success. Also, maybe it is not even talking about him, maybe it is talking about the world in general. Maybe we all are trying so hard to become something that we don't understand the evils of. We are all racing for materialism and money, when really, we are better people when we "sweep the streets". I think this is an amazing song, especially when paired with the Delacroix painting on the cover. This is going to be a GREAT album.

Dispatch – Craze Lyrics 19 years ago
Maybe it is about the choices you make and where those choices lead you, and about whether you will take chances and risks to make it somewhere or if you will stay in your comfort zone. We are scared to leave what we feel as comfortable but, as Dispatch points out, we need to. Our world is full of people lazy and scared, which makes the old man sigh. Maybe this old man never had to chance to dream, and now the wheels of his life are turning. Time is running out for this man. He is dissapointed with us for not doing more than what is neccessary. Maybe we should shoot for more. Make the future better rather than dwell in the past, as hard as it may be. Life isn't easy.

Jack Johnson – Taylor Lyrics 19 years ago
okay, i think i like BazzMann's interpretation of peter the best.. but about taylor. yes, she is a prostitute after making a few wrond decisions and is now stuck in a lifestyle in which she wishes she weren't in. She thinks that by having sex with some rich man, in his "rocket" or fast car, she can escape her world for a better one. however, unfortunatly for taylor, the man is only stopping by on his way.

i think this song is talking about how you might end up in a place you don't want to be in and that you have to work hard to get out, and be a good person. you can't take the easy road out, whether it be by going to church on sunday after commiting sins and still thinking you will go to heaven, or by giving yourself to a wealthy man for a way out. you must be a good person, and work hard, you must make a better lifestyle for yourself, rather than take the easy way out.

Jack Johnson – Mediocre Bad Guys Lyrics 19 years ago
i think this song is about how by doing nothing good can also be just as harmful to those around us as doing something evil. by just doing what we know, and pretending to be good, it doesn't save us in the end. we must all do good if we want the reward in the end.

Jack Johnson – Good People Lyrics 19 years ago
not only is this song talking about how bad television, but it also says that it is "desensitizing the nation". Not only are we beginning to think what happens around us is okay (ex. date my mom) but it is making us indifferent to more important things around us. Everywhere we look there are horrible things happening but we don't notice because we have seen so much of it that it doesnt seem to matter anymore, we begin to think this is okay, its fine.

Jack Johnson – Never Know Lyrics 19 years ago
i think this song is trying to say that we think that we are this HUGE part of the world, that we are why everything is here, that we are the building blocks of everything around us. he is trying to say that we are not the most important things to the earth, that we are each one short moment, we may be clever, but we have no clue what is going to happen. we could all die like the dinosoars and something even more complex could come along. we don't know, and we should not act like we know everything. we think of ourselves as the top of the world, but really we are just a small peice of the earth, the earth is something we are lucky to have. We are always trying to find answers, to find out what happens next, however, jj says that we are "just one breath in a chain of thought". The world, and earth around us is this HUGE thing us humans could not comprehend, we can only imagine, and guess, but we will never know.

Jack Johnson – Fall Line Lyrics 19 years ago
just guessing:

i think this is talking about how our world, and society, is falling, across what jack johnson calls the fall line. what is this fall line? where is this line that we are crossing? nothing is good, wholesome, or "sacred" anmore, now that we have crossed this line. Our hope is all we have at this point, as destroyers of ourselves.

it mentions "the box with the veiw of the world"... he is refering to television i believe. we see what we think is the world through television, however you usually don't receive the full picture. We are beginning to blame the television, and the people we see, however the damage is done within ourselves. rather than blame the world and people around us, we must change the world with ourselves first (no matter how cliche this may sound).

We need to stop, take a "minute" and look around to see what we are doing to ourselves. we need to "turn it off" and "rewind". go back to the good, rather than push forwards toward destruction.

we see the things happening around us, but do we see why they are occuring? take global warming for instance.. we know it is happening, but are we reducing the use of oil, and lowering pollution because of it? some may be, but most are just waiting until it is too late. im not saying jack johnson is talking about global warming, im saying that he is talking about our procrastination towards making this world a better place. we need to pay more attention to the people losing hope, and those beggining to slip rather than the stories of those who have jumped. we should shift our attention to matters that greatly improve the world around us rather than what makes a good story.

people always reach for more, for that next thing available, until we lose ourselves to materialism.

this song is brilliant.
