Mmm. This is probably my favorite version as well, although I'm not affraid to admit I like HIMs version as well. Incedently, im pretty sure its Melinda as well. Fun Fact - the backing vocals during the chorus are from an uncredited Bob Dylan. Listen to it and you'll wonder why you didnt pick it before. |

| Kasabian – Club Foot Lyrics

the lyrics are about a troubled relationship with a girl, what the guitarist said basicaly. the video is completely unrelated to the lyrics. t
he basic crux is an illegal radio station, probably in Communist Eastern Europe. the radio station broadcast Kasabian and their song. a bunch of people escape (with their radios) and get chassed by a tank. the girl at the end stands in front of the tank (obvoius homage to Tienamin Square protest, where roughly 3000 students were killed or injured). this blocks the tank from capturing the other students. the dedication to Jan Palach, a student who commited scuicide via self imolation (burning) as a protest towards the soviet ocupation of Czechoslovakia. this is mainly there as the band seem to be farily political people and has no relation to the video as far as i can see, aside from the fact that self destruction in the name of ones cause is the ultimate expression of ones belief in that cause. |

the idea of the song was based arround 'Terraplane Blues' by blues legend Robert Johnson (who was a massive influence on Page, the rest of Zeppelin, and just about every other great British blues-rock band). Plant used car parts as metaphores. this is probably my favorite Zeppelin song. great keyboard work by Jones, and you gotta love that wah-soaked tone of Page's. |

i saw a video clip of what i assume was the rock and roll circus performance. it went from about part IV. absoloutley amazing. i got the song off a mate but i had no idea the song was this long. i was amazed to hear that John Entwistle could sing that high (the realy high part in part IV.) listen to this than boris the spider, great vocal range.
incedentaly, i think bohemian rhapsody would be more influenced by stairway than this. same structure i.e. 3 movements, slow acoustic/piano part at the start. moves to a slow ballard then to a faster, heavier rock finish. |

| The Who – The Punk And The Godfather Lyrics
| 19 years ago

Pete Townsend said that part of the songs meaning was a conversation between a first generation mod and a second generation mod. he used the example of a conversation between himself and paul weller from the jam (the leader of a mod band during the punk era). his description was along the lines of...
PT: well, we made you.
PW: yes, but now you have this to deal with.
Obviously the context of the song in relation to the rock opera is diferent. however it could be seen as a way of PT talking about the who's image being made more mod-like. as in, the who were partialy responsible for the explosion of mod culture, but are then stuck with the epitaff of being a mod band, which they werent as such. Roger Daltery was particularly resentful of the image being forced on him and described himself as a rocker in mods clothing. |
