| Modest Mouse – Dramamine Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I obviously can't tell you what Isaac intended the song to mean, but from what I got out of it, it's about his inability to accept change in his life. Dramamine is used to treat motion sickness, and I think it's intended as a metaphor that his life is moving along and he has trouble coping with the changes in it. "Feeling spaced breathing out listerine " this may mean that he is feeling confused and not sure what to feel about life, but that by breathing out lysterine he is telling people what they want to hear and putting up a front to hide his insecurities. "We kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves " I think this means that in a relationship, things are fine on the surface but they are still uncomfortable sharing how they really feel, and much goes unsaid. The same bassline is repeated throughout most of the song, and the guitar parts are all very similar and based on the same scale. This uniformity could represent his resistance to change. After he finishes singing with the lines "I've said what I said and you know what I mean, But I can't still focus on anything" The tempo seems to increase and the guitar chords speed up, and the song continues to change pace and feel towards the end. This could signify the changes in life that he's finally accepted and learned to deal with and embrace. This last part may be a stretch, but I don't think a modest mouse song can be overanalyzed, I'm sure everything has a meaning whether or not I got it correct. Great song. |
