| Elliott Smith – Happiness/The Gondola Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
in response to the green eyes: good will hunting IS the best movie ever. rock on. as for your question: you made a good observation to connect ellott smith with the movie. while happiness is not specifically featured on the soundtrack, his other works are including Between The Bars (Orchestral) Angeles No Name #3 Between The Bars Say Yes and finally, with the closing titles, Miss Misery. for any elliott smith fan who hasnt seen Good Will Hunting, i HIGHLY recommend it. also, it has matt damon and they are red sox fans ;) |

| Daniel Johnston – Living Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| oh this is a brilliant song. it's hopeful and sad, and you gotta feel for this guy - but what a musical genius. its beauty is in it's simplicity. look for the cover by eels. it's beautiful. | |
| The Fiery Furnaces – Sing for Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this is such a bittersweet song. i love the way it tells its story, and this is a story about love, but not between two random lovers but a father and a daughter - i think it's terrific and beautiful. | |

| Eels – Going Fetal Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i love the energy in this song. but, as is typical with eels, if you really listen to the lyrics, they often do not match the tone of the song. i think this probably relates somewhat to concealing pain from others - they express it in this song - the ridiculous lyric 'going fetal' - just makes you laugh. but then you have lyrics like Everyone is going fetal If you feel like your fate is sealed Then just get down and curl on up Just like a little helpless pup, all right (Hey!) which make you realize the pain behind it all. feeling trapped or try this lyric Everyone is going fetal It's the one that's really real You're gonna love it if you give it a try You just lay down like you're gonna die, all right (Hey!) yet the tone is totally rockin and drivin the whole way through. similar pattern with their song on the same album, "hey man (now you're really living)" love the eels, man! |

| Bob Dylan – Blowin' in the Wind Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the song was writen in 1963 - although still probably before kennedy's assasination on nov 22 of the same year. the U.S. had not entered vietnam (they didn't go in until 1965) but the war was already in process. i still believe that the reference to cannon balls is in protest to the vietnam war but also, since the weaponry mentioned is obsolete, war in general. how many deaths wil it take till he knows that too many people have died is also a suggestive protest of war in general. but remember the time period - this is the 60s. it's all very relevant. the verse that begins how many years can some people exist - i definitely think that is a reference to racism and discrimination of all types, but especially racism because dylan mentions pretending he just doesn't see, and issues of racism went largely ignored (or just not given as much attention as needed). or at least not really until freedom summer 1964, when 3 civil rights workers went missing (they were killed by the kkk). 2 of them were white, and suddenly the nation turned around and addressed the issue. dylan's lyrics were relevant specifically to the time period, but the beauty of it is that it's not too specific - it can be interpreted generally, so it is always relevant. everyone can connect and find their own meaning in this song. personally, i don't think of all the political mishaps and racial inequality in america when i hear this song. it's more personal to me. but i do think it's important to recognize the lyrics and appreciate their genius. | |
