Arctic Monkeys – Ravey Ravey Ravey Club Lyrics 17 years ago
I actually think it's Alex. He was probably 3-4 years younger at the time, which might account fot his voice sounding different.

So different from their usual stuff.

I'm not complaining, anything Sigur Ros produces is pure gold.

Beautiful imagery in this song. And it makes me laugh seeing older comments about hoping they never sing in English-- and now they have. I think it's a nice thing though, and not a permanent one either, so I'm happy with it.

When I listen to this song I get the feeling of ambiguity, like a long, empty horizon. You're free to go anywhere but want to be everywhere. Fantastic.

h2min, totally agree with you. Completely reminiscent of Glosoli.

Sigur Rós – Ára Bátur Lyrics 17 years ago
To me this song sort of pays homage to someone who was lost-- not necessarily dead, but lost to something. Totally beautiful, with an incredible mix of love, sadness, remorse, hope... the highs and lows of emotions... just breathtaking. I'm getting goosebumps as I listen to it now.

Sigur Rós – Ágætis Byrjun Lyrics 17 years ago
Perhaps it has something to do with their first album-- Von. Apparently they wanted to redo it but it would have taken too much time and money. Maybe they weren't content, which can explain the lyrics "We'll Do Better Next Time." This was their way of introducing this album by saying they will try to do better than their first.

I think it's pretty straight-forward and agree with the interpretations above -- he has wronged a lover and feels horrible about it afterwards. Maybe in the end, where he says "You're still next to me," he means that he was accepted regardless of what he had done, and the relationship worked out in the end.

And although I agree that the song being in English doesn't have the same magic as it does when I can't understand it-- in NO WAY do I think they did it to become more mainstream, as epliohunk said. Sigur Ros could never be mainstream because not everyone (in the English-speaking world at least) has the capacity or patience to listen to such abstract music with words they don't understand. Most people prefer the generic cookie cutter crap they're used to.

In my opinion, we should be grateful to Sigur Ros because I feel that this is a gift to their English-speaking fans, and was bound to happen eventually.

I'm glad they did it, but I don't doubt they will continue to produce music in Icelandic and Hopelandic, as they always have (and I can't say I have any complaints :D)

i agree with wizardly friend and amazingjess, i think it is a rap parody, but i don`t think it`s because he says "niggaz" because jimmy urine says that in a lot of songs, and not offensively.

this is one of ym favourite MSI songs, i LOVE them, and i get to see them today, score!

The Shins – Caring Is Creepy Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about thinking too much -- just like a lot of you are doing trying to interpret this song. One thing I really liked though, was when I was reading the lyrics over and over, I thought of a scene in The Chronicles of Narnia, when Lucy first meets Mr. Tumnus. She holds her hand out for him to shake it, and he gets all confused. She says something along the lines of, "You`re supposed to shake it?" and he asks "Why?!" like if shaking hands was the most ridiculous thing.

She looks at him and realizes, she doesn`t know why you shake hands, it`s just what she`s been taught from when she was younger. So basically, in the song, the "squacking birds" are the people who constantly drill ideals into your brain and tell you to think a certain way. And the speaker`s realized this and thinks "it's a luscious mix of words and tricks/that let us bet when you know we should fold" like he`s been tricked all his life into being a certain way so now when he realizes this he`s become almost nihilistic ("hiding the fact you're dead again").

"one day i'll be wondering how
i got so old just wondering how
i never got cold wearing nothing in the snow"

probably the best lines in the song. Like pfarabee said, the bit about the first wondering being a reference to the second wondering, it makes it catchy but the speaker`s realizing the perpetual thought process that has brought him to be where he is and thinking what he`s thinking.

So I basically agree with the "thinking too much, get over it, no one cares, life goes on, etc etc etc"

Arctic Monkeys – Mardy Bum Lyrics 19 years ago
My favourite monkeys song. My best friend introduced me to them about a week ago and the first thing she said to me was, "You have to listen to Mardy Bum, it reminds me of you and Dan," (boyfriend) because we tend to get into loads of arguments

Arctic Monkeys – Fake Tales of San Francisco Lyrics 19 years ago
And finally the conversation turns to the actual song and not the roots of rock music -___-

I agree with what people said above -- I think the Monkeys are basically mocking the "scene" and how there are so many overrated bands and bands that think too highly of themselves -- and San Fran is a place with a pretty famous music scene.
