Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics 19 years ago
OK , i just finished reading the rest of the posts, which i probably should have done before i made mine, but here's what i have to say:

Anti-social, those are the lyrics being discussed in the toolshed forum right now, MJK hasn't posted the lyrics yet.

I like the idea that the subject in the song is like a rosetta stone to convey messages to humanity.

The line "you believe me don't you, please beleive what I just said" is because he believes what he saw, wether he did see it or not.(probably not, considering all the drug eveidence)

I don't understand how his heart could be racing while his vitals are stable - maybe he's only hearing the voices of nurse/doctor on his trip?

The subject probably is a cop since he's eating donuts outside area 51 at his post at 2:00

The one other thing i think the song could be about is maybe human nature - how we believe things that aren't real, forget our pen when we need it, spill donuts all over ouselves, drop out of highschool and become deadheads, and shit the bed (screw up) all the time - how typical.

The reference to the rosetta stone in this song is obvious, and just to remind you (i'm sure it's been pointed out already) the rosetta stone is the only real way historians have of interpreting egyptian hyroglyphs. Taking that into consideration, this song could be a way to interpret the album, but from what the lyrics tell me, it's just MJK making fun of people on acid who think they have had some great visitation, like Chris Cornell who spoke to Jesus. I think that this song is just here for enjoyment (it is my favorite song on the new album, I've FINALLY decided) and to confuse people who try to use it to decode the album. The song before it, called "lost keys (blame hoffman)" to me says that since the subject of the song is on LSD, he lost the keys to interpreting the stone, so we have no one to lame but Hoffman since without him we might stil have them. Before peopl say "MJK wouldn't do that!", just remember that he told the whole world that he had found jesus and left Tool, and remember that, as an autority, he successfully gets crowds to chant "Think for yourself, question authoriy", and notice that he gets thousands of people to walk around with the label "Tool" on their chests.

However, if you're not resigned to believe that this song is just one of his awesome jokes, then i have a bit of information. egb, you're theory about this song being on a par with Third eye is (in my opinion) a good one, since they seem to be opening concerts with Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned now instead of Third Eye. With the song being some sort of decoder, all that i've noticed is that it's 11:11 in lenth and there are 11 songs on the album.

Good luck to those who keep trying to find meaning n this song, I admire your perseverence.

Between the Buried and Me – Selkies: The Endless Obsession Lyrics 19 years ago
Ya this song is sick, I love Blake's opening drum beat and the epic guitar solo, but i don't know what it's really talking about. Seems to be about how we're endlessly obsessed with TV and how corporations take advantage of everything, ruing the very essence of it (Exploit the idea of this innocence). That only fits with part of the song though. Anyways, saw BTBAM live the other day and it was fucking so sick almost got knifed.

Btw, i've read places that explanations for the lyrics can be found on their website, but i can't fiind them. If anyone knows anything about it, please email me.

Tool – Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) Lyrics 19 years ago
Nihasa, I don't understand how you can't "create" art, i mean, that's most of what art is - creations.
Anyways, the Rosetta Stone (an obvious reference to the song Roseta Stoned) is often know as the key to deciphering egyptian hyroglyphs (I don't know or care how to spell that). As such, i think the song Rosetta Stoned could be taken as a decoder for something (maybe the album or song or both or anything - maybe it's a joke), and the keys may be "lost" somewhere in this song. That's just an Idea anyways - I definitely think Rosetta Stoned is supposed to be used as some sort of decoder, i'm not really convinced that my keys theory is better than Gummy's, but there it is.

The Dillinger Escape Plan – Setting Fire To Sleeping Giants Lyrics 19 years ago
Nobody really seems to have thought of the relation of the title to the song - what does flaming giants have to do with date rape?

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – Sleep Is Wrong Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't really know what this song is about, or much about the band, but they're sick. People need to start posting here because Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is Amazing, if you don't belive me then listen to 1997 than whatever else. Anyways, i think this song has to do how we are raised in a way to work all the time, work hard, and not slack off. Sleep could be seen as a metaphor for resting or relaxing or something that isn't doing work, and since it isn't work, it's wrong. The never gonna cry or die parts work with that too, but i don't understand the never coming home - maybe running away from home? - anyways, i don't know and i would appreciate some feedback if anyone at all knows anything about this band.
