I can obviously see that several people have taken a crack at digging into the meaning of this song. But, seeing as this song kind of holds a special meanin in my heart, I'm gonna let the world know what certain parts of it says to me. :) First of all, I think the entire song is pretty much describing a relationship where they're "Just Friends" but one of them could have stronger feelings for the other that haven't been talked about. And I keep my jealousy close, 'cause it's all mine. (being jealous of her dating other people but not being able to talk about it because she doesn't know how he really feels) And if you say this makes you happy, then I'm not the only who lied (hes suggesting she feels the same way, and saying shes happy with their relationship status how it is, being just friends, is a lie just like him saying he doesn't have feelings for her like that all this time) Keep quiet, nothing comes as easy as you. Can I lay in your bed all day? (this part seems obvious towards the story, he wants to spend time with her, as he usually does seeing as they're such good friends.. ) I'll be your best kept secret and your biggest mistake. (saying that if she doesn't realize that she feels the same way, it will forever be her secret, and a mistake) The hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday (obviously hes writing about how he fails to tell her how he really feels all the time) So wear me like a locket around your throat. I'll weigh you down; I'll watch you choke. You look so good in blue. (suggesting that if she moves further into a relationship with other people then he could just be excess baggage, weighing her down. i think the watch you choke is just figurative, as is the you look so good in blue [ie when you choke you turn blue] ) i think of course the writer of any song has the meaning that they wrote the song for, but i think that by publicizing a song they're putting it out there for our own interpretation, to be decided by yourself, in different forms, in different opinions. :) so this was just one of many |
