| Funeral for a Friend – Escape Artists Never Die Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I agree with most peoples ideas here. I think the whole song is based on an extended metaphor of an escape artist being chained up and thrown into a lake (or some other expanse of water.. ..), the lake is a relationship that has ended and the chorus is him slowly drowning without her 'Up to my neck When I'm breathing without you, without you Up to my eyes And I'm seeing without you, without you' and. . 'Up to my eyes And I'm seeing without you, without you Up to my heart When I'm bleeding without you, without you.' When it says 'Please someone help me, i'm dying here in front of you' Trying to cut his ties to this girl is killing him and he can't do it. It's almost like he's either still trapped in the water or has been dragged out (mayb by her giving him hope?) but it's too late and he's lying in front of her dying. I also think the girl, is the escape artist and it was easy enough for her to walk out with minimal harm, mayb matt is trying to say its kinda often the case that when people end relationships they dont understand the pain the other person has to go through, especially since their fine. I'm not sure about the timing bit, maybe it just follows on from it being to late for him? Im also not sure about the first verse, it kinda reminds me of vampires, with red i.e. evil eyes and blood dripping from the corner of her mouth dunno tho! |

| Ash – Shining Light Lyrics | 19 years ago |

One of my favourite songs ever! Much as I'd like it to be about Jesus, i don't think it is, because the chemical reaction part doesn't go, neither the dark divine intervention bit (that would imply the devil rather than Jesus) its still a great love song though and I love the imagery used and its just nice and kinda happy for ash:) |

| Ash – Girl From Mars Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Hey i've never thought of it like that, girl from mars could indeed be a lesbian - or maybe a self-confessed lesbian who was actually Bi "I know you are almost in love with me, i can see it in your eyes. . ." The other thought I had was maybe she was someone who was just so weird and wacky that she may as well have been from mars that he fell in love with, and she started falling in love with him as well. Or it could be a bit simpler like dianyx said, just a girl that was very shy to start off with, played her cards very close to her chest, hey the whole card thing could be a really elaborate extended metaphor for somethin else.....ohh dear i analyse things way too much! It's definitely a summer song and always makes me think of holidays and being young and messing about, one of my friends has a video of me and my friend singing along to this VERY drunkly its hilarious. . . |

| Muse – Falling Away with You Lyrics | 19 years ago |

When I first heard this song i didnt think it was about a relationship ending, more a bad relationship (i.e one that wasn't good for either parties involved) that the writer (or whoever the song was written for) couldn't leave because they loved that person too much even though they knew that staying with that person would ultimately destroy them and it was destined for failure. The writer was so much in love with this person that it wouldn't matter to them what they became, they would still love them and stay with them, unless of course they decided to finish it i.e he wasnt going to intiate a breakup That is probably just because of what was happening in my life at the time but its how i always listened to it. The meaning of his soul crumbling away as she did (and the relationship ending) never really occured to me until now! I always thought it was about someone who was staying in a relationship that was destroying them from the inside out. The person who mentioned it was in major, is something that occured to me as well, although it is a ballad it's quite fast and the opening bars reminds me of a kind of lazy sunny beach, very reminiscent so it could be that he is looking back on a past relationship, or that he changes tense in the song? not sure lol |

| Muse – Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Well I think it's a song about a christian who converted to atheism and then either realises God exists (God is the one whose in the room and it's heaven (or hell), which is the world colliding with his) or wonders whether he made the right decision or not. Think it's linked to Sing for absolution in the sense that he maybe does beleive in God but has turned away or denied it to himself so now is terrified of dying. I would imagine it's what a lot of people think in their last moments. I also think that the 'Look through a faithless eye are you afraid to die?' is a general question to the listener to make them think about life (or lack of it!) after death. Probably the most obvious comments but nevermind, thats my thoughts. |

| Muse – Dark Shines Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Hmmm well I had a COMPLETELY different take on it, when I hear the chorus " Dark shines, bringing me down, making my heart feel sore, cos it's good" I thought it was about a girl (or guy), who is really drawn to a guy (or girl) who is a bit (or a lot I wouldn't know) depressed or suicidal but it's that very fact that draws that person to them. The girl/boy wants to sort the other out and 'make them better' but in trying to do that they end up bringing themselves down and it causes them pain. They wont give up on it however because they love that person too much, even tho the relationship isnt really helping them. I'm not sure where the whole consuming innocence part fits into what i wrote above but this song kinda reminds me of my ex because of whats written above. |
