| This song is about Syd Barret, like many Roger Waters songs. Syd Barret was the original PF frontman. This man was brilliant and he had a bright future in front of him, but he did a lot of LSD and he had a natural inclination to insanity. Well, the short of it he went insane and David Gilmour took his place. In any regard, this song is saying, in the individual respect, that every good thing that Syd had done during his life becomes naught at with the consumation of his insanity.
