| Oceansize – Catalyst Lyrics | 19 years ago |

It sounds to me like it's about a guy in a mental institution desperate to be released or something "I'm so fearful of the future, ignorant of the present, and wary of the past" meaning he doesn't want to have to confront his demons or something. Not sure... |

| Elbow – Powder Blue Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I'm sure it was referring to two druggies he'd seen on Canal Street in Manchester. Two people so completely besotted with eachother and co-dependent on eachother that they feed eachothers addictions to the point of near-fatality. How is it possible to write such an incredibly beautiful song about being a drug addict without glamourising it?! Absolutely amazing. |

| Guy Garvey has such an incredible talent for creating beautiful imagery like this. | |
| Elbow – Newborn Lyrics | 19 years ago |

This is most people's fvourite Elbow song - rightfully so! It's talking about an old married couple - one of whom is suffering from dimentia (or some such devastating illness). They've been together for so long and refuse to leave eachother despite the illness being very hard to deal with. "Love not by degrees" - meaning absolute committment to eachother no matter what happens. The crescendo at the end is fabolous - the image of such a terrifying "episode" happening to one of them that it brings fear and terror to the other one, but they hold them regardless and do everything in their power to calm them down and reassure them that everything will be alright. Sends shivers up my spine. |

| Elbow – Fugitive Motel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I read that it was about his experiences of being on the road in the USA having to stay in sleazy motels that are bound to have interesting histories. The piece where he's talking to someone "I'm tired I said, you always look tired she said" is him on the phone to a friend back home who's trying to keep him grounded and remind him who he is and not let him get big headed. Something like that... |

| Elbow – Bitten by the Tailfly Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's about an exceedinly randy guy trying to pull a girl in a club on a Saturday night - the most drunken girl there who is the easiest to seduce. She's obviously been in that situation a lot of times hence "bitten by the tailfly" but she'll never change. | |
| Elbow – Snooks (Progress Report) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I saw an interview with Guy Garvey and he gave the meaning to this song. It's literally a progress report on the band - of everything that happened to them since Asleep in the Back was released. It's very brief and to the point but is simply an "update" on the band. |

| Elbow – My Very Best Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It's about the breakdown of a relationship which the narrator is so thankful he had that he can't hold any contempt for the (now) ex. "You've gone, gone and made a beautiful hole in my heart" - he's letting her know that the breakup has broken his heart and he'll never forget that hurt, but that he's proud to bare the scar. He's also looking back on things he may have done differently but that now he'll never know. It's a beautiful song and sums up my last relationship fantastically. |
