Great song. It is difficult to figure out all of the lyrics. Here they are in total. Oh baby Well there's a light in your eye that keeps shinin' Like a star that can't wait for a night I hate to think I been blinded, baby Why can't I see you tonight? And the warmth of your smile starts a burnin' And the thrill of your touch give me fright And I'm shaking so much, really yearnin' Why don't you show up and make it alright Yeah, it's alright-ri(ght) And if you promised your love so completely And you said you would always be true You swore that you never would leave me, baby Whatever happened to you? And you thought it was only in movies As you wished all your dreams would come true, hey It ain't the first time believe me baby I'm standin' here feeling blue, blue Hah, babe I’m blue Oh babe Now I will stand in the rain on the corner I watch the people go shuffling downtown ‘nother ten minutes no longer And then I'm turnin' around, 'round And the clock on the wall’s movin' slower Oh my heart it sinks to the ground And the storm that I thought would blow over Clouds the light of the love that I found, found Light of the love that I found Light of the love that I found Oh, that I found Hey babe Ew_ew_ew Hands on the clock Well they just don't seem to stop When I'm thinking it over ?? Wheww_, tired of the light ‘Cause I just don't seem to find Gotta get away, get away ?? Whoah-ew-ew I see ya in my dreams But I just don't seem to be with you I gotta get on, gotta get on, gotta get on I've got to get on (awesome drums) Ew now my body is starting to quiver And the palms of my hands getting wet, oh I got no reason to doubt you baby It's all a terrible mess And I'll run in the rain 'til I'm breathless When I'm breathless I'll run 'til I drop, hey And the thoughts of a fool's kind of careless I'm just a fool waitin' on the wrong block, aw yeah Hey now Awwww, awww, ho, ho Light of the love that I found Light of the love that I found Light of the love that I… Light of the love that I found Light of the hey n(ow), light of the hey n(ow) Light of the love that I found Light of the love that I found I just cannot figure out the one verse in the middle. As for the meaning, I think the gist of it is pretty clear, although the precise emotional state of the guy can't possibly be nailed down. Obviously he is enfatuated with this woman and wants to be with her. "I hate to think I've been blinded". This tells the listener right away that the guy has a feeling his good sense has been blinded by his love for her. "Why can't I see you tonight". Obviously he is calling on the girl and she is putting him off. "I'm shaking so much really yearning". This guy is probably borderline obsessive about this girl. "And if you promised your love so completely And you said you would always be true You swore that you never would leave me, baby Whatever happened to you?" She has obviously either broken up with him or started to become distant, thus spurring his questioning of her devotion. "Another ten minutes no longer And then I'm turnin' around" Apparently he asked her to meet him, or maybe he is even waiting for her outside her apartment. And obviously she isn't showing up. "And the STORM that I thought would blow over CLOUDS the light of the love that I found" This is the key line in the song for all of you wondering if the rain and standing on the wrong block are all metaphors. Yes the rain is certainly metaphorical when taken into consideration with the "storm" and "clouds" lines. And this same line also solidifies the fact that she either broke up with him or has drifted away. He hoped this separation would just "blow over" and they would be together again. "Hands on the clock Well they just don't seem to stop When I'm thinking it over" This shows that the guy is thinking about her always, round the clock. Again he sounds pretty obsessed with her. "I see ya in my dreams But I just don't seem to be with you I gotta get on..." Again he has a fleeting moment of reality when he just can't see himself with her. And he realizes he's gotta move on ("gotta get on") "When I'm breathless I'll run 'til I drop". Again reinforces he is obsessed with her. He will do anything just to be with her. "And the thoughts of a fool's kind of careless I'm just a fool waitin' on the wrong block" I think this line throws everyone off of the trail of all the things I explained above. It would cheapen the song in my opinion to think the whole thing revolves around the simple fact that the guy is mistakenly waiting at the wrong rendezvous spot for the girl. I believe that once again he has switched his thoughts back to the possibiolity that she still loves him, so he tries to reason that maybe he is just mistakenly waiting on the wrong block. So the guy is in the song is thinking he is physically on the wrong block. And the writer of the song is saying he is metaphorically on the wrong block, meaning this girl is not for him, nor does she love him. "Light of the love that I found Light of the love that I found" Finally he repeats over and over part the same line as before "(And the storm that I thought would blow over clouds the) light of the love that I found". I picture this guy as totally distraught over this girl, continually going back and forth in his mind with "she loves me, she loves me not". What guy (or girl for that matter) can't relate to this song? |

5th verse is actually "Poems come so slowly Like the colors down her cheek" (meaning her tears are running her mascara/makeup down her cheek) |
