I think it's "on my fathers grave" but animal collective are excellent at making things sound different. It also sounds like "by my father's grace" Excellent vocalists. I'm pretty sure these are the most accurate after listening to this song a hundred times. |

I fucking love this song. The love picture that this gives me is fantastical. My favorite song of 09'
It just sounds like a fantasy perfect love described from a guy's perspective, and the wordplay makes it feel so surreal. :D
Can't wait to see them at bonnaroo :) |

This is my favourite song on the album. I understand the lyrics, but it's not easily said. The lyrics represent short ideas, in a cool ass form. Definately the best song of 07. Love the album! |

There's no "crying" (except in "
So we smile when we're crying")in this song but I hate being a lyric nazi, it's just words afterall.
This is a bouncy kid story-style song that makes me think of building forts and walking up the creek on a bright day as a child. |

When you look at me with your black eyes
And you look at me with your dead eyes
This song is a fantasy wonderscape of sound. |

This song provokes feelings that other music just can't. I've been waiting for music that is actually moving. It feels like an experience during the length of the song. It's amazing. |

Lol! ^ very funny.
Regardless of the content(because I don't understand, I'm not an egyptian myth major) it still conveys powerful emotion with the yelling/screeching "ZI ANNA KANPA ZI KIA KANPA" I love it. |

Amazing song. I don't think words can describe how beautiful it is. The words could fit the reverend mothers from the dune storyline perfectly. I don't think its about dune though, maybe reincarnation who knows. A very personal tune it sounds like nevertheless. |

I really dig this song.... And I agree dying on a job would be the worst fucking feeling in the world. The sun is fuzzy, cigs are enticing for drunkards.
This song says "life goes on" to me. |

This captures how loss feels, when friends go away, you have to just tell yourself that everything will be fine sometime in the future.
In a word: hope.
It's such a sad and lovely song. |

I like this song, it seems to lean towards the theme of leaving which everyone has to come to terms with. Sad and true. Good song. |

| Joanna Newsom – The Book of Right-On Lyrics
| 19 years ago

I think this song is a statement towards religious nuts, people that disrespect animals, and living in nature (pack on the back) she says those lines as though someone could be jealous of the freedom that she has, and from the previous lines she could be hinting that zealots and fanatics are the ones that have sealed their fates and thus are the jealous ones. Which I can agree with.
If you read this joanna and I've misinterpretted your words then I'm sorry. No matter what they mean to whomever, they still are amazingly writting and sung. BRAVO. |

| Built to Spill – Goin' Against Your Mind Lyrics
| 19 years ago

I have a better interpretation. I think it means that religion is just an answer for people to try to find things out that is unnecessary. "Finding things that no one wants to find" religious people see things that aren't there in hopes of finding the mystical truth
Also with the alien/god metaphor I believe he is saying that he thought the light was an alien, but people told him its god. That's why he says "just god" its just another reason that people hold onto. |

this song is amazing. I think it's a general knock on religion. The main message being "religion halts your mind" It slows down what could happen.
"If you’re not sure who not to believe
Who has better reasons to decieve"
speaking of propagandists. |

| The Books – Twelve Fold Chain Lyrics

Kinda transcendental at the end, making a mention that nature will cure itself of its creation(man) by the way of the natural life cycle. Other than that I think this is an amazing song of humanistic metaphors and great lyrics of the life and death process (even birth) |

Yea I agree fiddle. Friends and I always ask if we're "gone" to measure how fucked up we are. The part about time slowing down is accurate as well. I'm trying to figure out if "owl with knees" means anything. It's not an abbreviation of any drug i know of so IDK :/ |

| The Books – None but Shining Hours Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
This song describes earth. We live off of the excess or "Fat" of the sun. Black spot in the sky with diamonds... describes the moon in the middle of the night sky. Its essentially saying that we have hours to do whatever because the universe blows up, therefore making them important or "shining hours"
that's my take on it. |

I don't think this is about a homosexual or heterosexual and I think that most of you think that everything someone writes about thas to pertain to them. I took this song as just two general lovers, because it never specifies, why jump to stupid conclusions? I love the twist at the end though. Such an awesome song. |

| A Perfect Circle – Vanishing Lyrics

I always thought of this song as dying or having a drug induced out of body experience. With "higher into the air" I see the person's essence floating upwards and them dying from either an overdose or just gradual misuse of drugs
The next part where it says:
Never really here
Wasn't ever
I think it means that the person is finally dying and they were never on the normal base of existence because they were all into drugs and you could never see them as they were normally because of it.
The tone of the song really reminds me of slowly dying or fading away. one of my favourites on the album. |

| A Perfect Circle – Blue Lyrics

A certain part is my favourite
"Mistook their nods for an approval
Just ignore the smoke and smile "
I think what he's referring too, is other people's nods of her actions to go and do w/e it is that she's doing. As in like her being depressed and gradually getting deeper in the hole. The next part about the smoke is make a reference to a fire. When a house fire starts there's usually a bit of smoke to warn you that something is going to happen. I think it means that she's ignoring the warning signs of certain demise through addiction or depression. Ignorantly blissful. |
