i'm not totally sure what this song means, but I get a little I think. he's conflicted because he keeps screwing up, doing something wrong. He knows its wrong, but he keeps doing it anyways because it feels good. It feels so good it almost feels right. but he knows its not what that wrong action actually is I don't know. Some lines to back me up: I am my own life, my own harm i'm a bad friend we all need to learn to swim anyways (I need to learn to control this?) (the first two lines) I can't figure out the significance of the phrase "bloodlike" though such a great song though. I just heard it today for the first time, so these are my initial impressions. |

I think this is about killing someone in defense or for a good cause. It sucks and it kind of breaks you down, making you lose sleep, weighing down your heart, kind of a hopeless blackness. i really like this song, it rocks!!! i think it's about somebody who tries to have a perfect relationship with a guy/girl, but expects perfection. then whe he/she finds out that it is impossible to have a relationship without fights that goes beyond formalities (like in A Doll's House) then it all falls into pieces. i love it. |

this HAS to be the best song jimmy eat world has ever written and possibly the best song EVER. i think it's about a guy who had fallen in love with a girl who gave him something that no one else could. when she dies, he feels like he didn't have the time to say thankyou. he wishes with everything that he could spend just one more night with her... but it wasn't meant to be. it's a sad song, but it's also kind of uplifting in a way. i love it. |
