| Laura Marling – Cross Your Fingers Lyrics

The "house you were born in" I always took to mean your body. As you age it starts "crumbling at the corners", resulting in "sagging skin and feet of crows"...
Amazing album. |

i can't place it but i'm sure the music to this is from another song something from the 60s maybe. the drums especially!
thought the lyrics went something like:
"are you crying...
over me,
over me..."
gives me chills everytime i hear this song. |

the play between the brass and beth's voice is insanely haunting. i can't pick a favourite portishead song, but this one definitely gets repeated several times before i move on to "only you". |

Trent Reznor has specified that he used to listen to this instrumental a lot. And sampled/remade parts of it for A Warm Place... But anyway, I love this instrumental, it always makes me think of Terry Gilliam's Brazil for some reason, truly trippy warped soundscapes! |

| Antony and the Johnsons – Hope There's Someone Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Just beautiful...
It also appears to me to be a song about the fear of death, but not so much fear of the act of dying or suffering pain, but being stuck between this life and whatever is next. The second half of the song which I feel is the speaker's character dying, leaves me time for contemplation of what comes next... re-incarnation, becoming a ghost or an eternity of nothingness, yet the harmonies fill me strangely with optimism as if although we will never know until we get there, the final breath of the dying leaves us our hope for when our time comes.
Anyway, as always, just my opinion... |

A beautiful song, Ray seems to have a real talent for expressing emotion without using cliches... |

| Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics

Sia took a bit of a sabbatical after her first album, it having been received to critical acclaim, and by her own admission, sort of lost the plot a bit. To me this song is a tribute to (what/who)ever made her take the first step on the road back from the brink. I'd also like to thank that person for being there for her, or else the world might be 1 short on excellent artists. |

This song is really sad if you know a bit about Sia. Check out sia-music.net if you want to know more. |

Is it prokofiev that was sampled for this?
I can never remember the name or composer, but it has been twisted perfectly to fit this theme. |

| Sia – Moon Lyrics

This is one of my favourite songs ever... Been following Sia since taken for granted was promo-ing ahead of healing is difficult, and I think this is definitely a pinnacle of her achievements.
"I believe the world it spins for you", such a cute line, sang so emotionally. |

Truly stunning song...
People around the world who are killing others for profit or religion, take note... |

For those interested in Sia Furler (the excellent vocals on several zero7 songs, including this one), she has a website at siamusic.net and also a sublime first album before "colour the small one", which was called "healing is difficult"...
come show the love :) |

| Zero 7 – Waiting To Die Lyrics

One of my favourites off this rather odd album, sia's vocals are infallable as usual... the song seems to be either mocking the global warming situation or at least embracing it, with a defeatist attitude sown next to happy go lucky "la la la la la la" melodies.
Maybe its not pessimism but freedom that drives this song, acknowledgement of one's own mortality and making the most of the time you have. |

| The Kooks – If Only Lyrics

|
The chorus makes me think of the whole bush/blair thing...
Maybe they weren't loved enough as children.
Anyway, this is one of my favourites off the album, and I think the general meaning is about not letting your inner demons get the best of you, facing your fears and grabbing life by the short and curlys. |

| Yes – Heart of the Sunrise Lyrics

This song feels like a trip... almost a dream, switching structural elements around a common theme but placing them so they dont up-end the song too much.
I also agree that some of the lyrics here are wrong. |

Love this song, the six and a half minute long version at any rate. Does anyone else hear undertones of Eddie Vedder in Ben's voice? spooky |
