This is the Doors' heroic antiwar anthem. "Soldier" was an obvious instigation. "The Unknown Soldier" described the experience of seeing the violence of the war on television, and the death of an unknown soldier. No band other than the Doors could have produced a song (and a film) so consuming, so vicious, so impossibly dead on. |

Jim often chanted "Kil the father, fuck the mother", near the end of this song...The meaning of this is derived from an Oedipus theory.
What "The End" is really about:
"'Kill the father' means kill all of those things in yourself which are instilled in you and are not of yourself. They are not of your own. They are alien concepts which are not yours. THEY MUST DIE. tHOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT MUST DIE. The psychadelic revolution.
