@[foreign_hand:531] To me the lyrics: I looked at your wall Saw that old passport photograph I look like I've just jumped the Berlin Wall Berlin I love you I'm starting to fade Talk about how he's just jumped on the otherside of love for the other person and "berlin, I love you" is him realizing that he enjoys the feeling that he once dreaded. Love this song. Pretty heart wrenching where he says: When you're far away Oh god you are so far away On the last verse he trails off and it kills. |

She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars. She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars. #The narrator is of the opinion his spouse is dealing with regret that she missed an opportunity. Perhaps she has reached her end for their relationship and is thinking about everything she “could have done” like her trip to “Mars” if she hadn’t wasted time with this relationship. She's not at work, she's not at school, She's not in bed, I think I finally broke her. I bring her home everything I want, and nothing that she needs. #Up until now she has been very predictable and has broken the pattern which the narrator is lamenting. For a husband to bring home all of the classic values such as a steady job, provide for the family monetarily, being faithful, etc. wasn’t enough. It was everything he thought he was responsible for and if accomplished he’d be seen as a “great husband”. Now he realized that she needed something different entirely like love, comfort, and communication. I thought she'd be there holding daisies, she always waits for me. She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars. #Despite their troubles she would hold-fast and always be there with “daisies” which could be putting a smile on her face when he came home or asking how his day was or having dinner ready after a hard day, etc. So much so that he took if for granted as he realizes as his relationship with her is now in a tailspin if not completely over. I found her out back sitting naked looking up and looking dead. A crumpled yellow piece of paper, with seven nines and tens. #To me this returns to the first line but has progressed in severity. Before she was counting stars and now she’s lost hope. She’s naked because she is completely vulnerable and defeated. Regarding the crumpled piece of paper - perhaps that was her way of counting stars which she’s abandoned. Maybe the train to mars is the path to happiness for their relationship and she’s counting “stars” or highlights in their relationship to figure out where it all went wrong. I thought she'd be there holding daisies, she always waits for me. She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars. #Same as before, more emphasis x2 |

This site is full of a bunch of anti-bush douchebags. Not ever song an alt / indie band with the word "war" or "soldier" is anti-bush. Just like every Sufjan Stevens song isn't about God or religion. GET OVER IT. |

From Tom's Rolling Stone Interview: "The song was inspired by a friend who whose marriage was kind of falling apart. It touched me so deeply that I was up one night crying for him -- I felt so hurt. The chorus goes, "Hey, yo/Here I am, and here we go/Life is waiting to begin." It just keeps building and building and building, and says, "I cannot live and I cannot breathe unless you do this with me." Imagine you're still in love with someone and that person doesn't love you back, and there's nothing you can do about it. I don't wish that upon anybody." Straight from the horse's mouth. There you go kiddos. |
