This was actually written by Brendan Behan, the Pogues did a great job with it.
It's about being in jail, obviously, but in Behan's case he was in jail because he was in the IRA. |

This song is awesome. I don't believe it to be anti-Catholic or anti anything. It's just about not being able to live up to the standards that his faith, family or himself has set.
Dave King (lead singer) is not anti-Catholic. He IS Catholic, I've seen him three times live, and like every person who's not too serious he pokes fun at himself. Part of him is his Catholicism.
(P.S. I know he's not anti-Catholic because he asked who went to church the morning of the last Flogging Molly concert I saw and he said he went to St. _____'s Catholic Church that morning...leading to mass amount of cheers.) |

I love this song, and random fact: It's in the movie, Mr. And Mrs. Smith (which I saw for the first time today).
But I love this song, it's a whole lot of fun to play on guitar. Hell, all their songs are fun to play on guitar. I love this band. Dave King is a genius. |

So excited they're doing a studio version of this song for their new DVD/CD, however, it won't be the same without the drunk yelling "laura..." |
