I think this song is about being an introvert for the most part, but you do want to be in love. But in the meantime you have to occupy yourself. Thi is sort of how I feel. I live in california and I often contemplate about taking an train to Maine for a month in hopes of finding something or someone, but realistically I may just be more alone. Knowing your onion just means understand yourself cause once you undertand yourself you can correctly cope with conundrums in your life. |

That when you feel so hopless you find somone who you think you can take comfort in, and you do. You kno you're vulnerable and they figured out a way to reach you because you are so caustious to not get hurt. And the time went by so quickly and you cant believe its over. ( i dont know why it ended) and I dont think the singer wants to. Ignorance is bliss and he doesnt want to think about it. |

Maybe, hating the type of girls who try to get the best of you and you realize this and you know they are aware of their own problems so you drink alcohol and smoke weed to try to forget. You fall vicitim to lack of motivation and time passes quickly, kids cant really handle lime its too sour and they make a face. Sort of how you cant keep track of how fast time is going by when you are being consumed by "partying" too much. I think the whole slide line is about him missing his childhood, missing as in he failed to experience it. |

Well it seems like it has a transcendentalist notion to it. And among an old natural setting the singer realizes people spend too much time analyzing things in life and life itself to fully enjoy it. And that maybe you're not supposed to figure it out. People kill themselves over things that will only matter to them in their short lifetime or maybe thats metaphorical for obsessing over something or somone. While we try to find a new way of figuring things out we may let someone or something with innocence guide us. (toddler at the helm) and help us acheive a certain enlightenment.
James Mercer, I think, is somewhat of a transcendentalist; an example would be this song and also the saint simon video(walking through a forest) |
