Project 86 – Doomsday Stomp Lyrics 19 years ago
well done ominousoat, very thorough. i see the quick fix thing now, thanks. i agree with your interpretation of whore, i'd just finished reading hosea when i first heard this song so that's the impression i got too,
itd be nice if the band would let us know if the word actually is whore or if we're barking up the wrong tree

Project 86 – Sincerely, Ichobod Lyrics 19 years ago
i agree with asweat08 on the ichabod point. eli and his sons were supposed to be holy and good since they were priests (the ones who originally "occupied this temple") but eli compromised and his sons were evil. the two sons died in battle and eli died on hearing the news, so the sinful old stuff was purged from the temple, and this happened in the hour that ichabod was born. after this had happened samuel took over the priesthood and actually did it right, so its very fitting considering that the song is basically about getting rid of the bad stuff in our lives and moving on ("you're no longer welcome here")

why is the 5 letter word "death"? i got the impression it would be "whore", a reference to the whore of babylon in the bible, which would make sense cos the song seems to be about the apocalypse, and its used in connection with the woman. in the bible cities and countries are often referred to as prostitutes.
im often wrong about song meanings but this one seems pretty straightforward: the world has run out of chances and now God will stomp it out like an anthill. the references to hangman are an illustration of the opportunities the world had to save itself, but so many wrong guesses have ultimately condemned it. the "roadkill scent of violent city" probably refers to how the world stinks to God because of the evil and killing being done there. the fact that the word is the town's name only makes sense to me if the word is "whore" or something similar, but then im never right on things like this. the plagues are probably the ones unleashed on the world in the book of revelation.
