To me it just sounds like a guy trying to get over a girl that chose someone else over him. "Despondent, distracted, You're vicious and romantic; These are a few of my favorite things." Hopelessly distracted, yet still in love. "All of the flavors, and this is what you choose." All of the flavors maybe referring to all the guys she could have had, and she chose someone besides him. "Pass the blues, pass the blues, and on to something new." ... forget the sadness, move on. The rest just flows; Love being an act of god. The girl being "Stubborn" for not seeing he was rgiht for her from the start. Now maybe she's saying it's HIS fault, and he wants to forget it. 5 am... who HASN'T woken up at 5am to think about someone, or talk to someone? --- Just my two cents. |

I think it's sort of a political song. Maybe like a continuation of Lord of the Flies. Basing a song on a book like that seems ridiculous to me, but maybe just a reference to it. The kids didn't get along on the island, always fighting and arguing over what they thought was right and wrong. "Now that we are home", and were rescued, they realize it's no different than the island. The adults and politicians still fight, argue, and lie about what is going on the world, what needs to be done, and what they're doing. I doubt they'd still be writing songs about Jesse or John. Come on, that material is old. |
