This song is so valid in my current situation. It fits perfectly. I have fallen in love with this girl, i'll call her Tori, and she has been treated like shit in some past relationships, and has some meotional wounds thatstill haven't healed. I've taken down all my walls and exposed my true self to her, and offered all of myself to her. She fears the pain of getting let down or having her heart broken again. But i beleive in her with all of my being and i'd give up anything i have to mend her heart. I'm just wishing for her to find her way and quit this game, and let me in for one second so i can give her all of my love. I know of alot that she's been through and i have so much empathy for her, i feel her pain and i want to give her some positive energy back. She radiates this warthm unto my soul just being near her. I wish for her to open up and let my love radiate to her. This song is about seeing through the illusion of our everyday lives, and soaring above teh bullshit taht pl think is so important. You can always count on your weed and your whiskey to get you by, and your Sabbath and Slayer to give you the drive to keep going. Like Dime himself, he quit school, and tehn went on to say it was the best thing he ever did. I fyou really want to live free, and be Goddamn Electric, you need to cut teh chord that grounds you, take down teh walls aroudn you and just fucking live. Th epart where he says "There is an escape, drop out of the race" It's about just not caring about what is expected of you anymore, and living life at your own pace, taking it in, an dliving, rather than just preparing for the future, and ultimately your death. Thats like living to die. Dime was all about living, loved life, and whiskey and weed, and his fans, and lived every day liek it was his last. The song has spiritual conetation as well is the lines concerning the "Mind's Eye" which is your spiritual eye, and it's abilty to see what your heart truly desires, follow that man and you'll live a good life like Dime, R.I.P. i knwo it's impossible to tell only from teh music exactly wut a song can be about, but judging by the title this is a peice conveying the emotion of how man has invente god, or teh idea of god, when it is possible the god that is found in religions couldn't be further from the truth. Maybe he is in anguish because he has lost his faith, hence the emotion brought forth in the song. |

Surprises me that this song only had one comment. THere must not be alot of Neil Young fans on this site, cuz this is IMO one of hismost moving song.
Basically, what i get from it, is that you should never give up on your dreams, and don't let other people, that are trying to beat you down deny you from those dreams. Don't be denied.
I learned teh meaning of this fast, i was on my back porch and my step father tol dme to listen to teh lyrics very carefully. Whne the song got to the end, he told me, "Don' tlet anyone deny you, Don't be fucking Denied, don't let anyone tell you they ar ebtte rthan you." Now when i thinkof what he said whiel this song is playing I always get teary eyed. Thats one o fteh reasons i learned it on guitar. |

IMO, thsi song has to do with the rising number of fake straight edge people. These people aren't straight edge becaus ethey really care about being clean, thay are as a status symbol and to conform to a group, and although ThrowDown is a quote on quote "sXe" band they feel very disrespected by people who pose and make blashphemy of their beliefs. That a peron who walks to fucking proud about being straightedge, isn't really straightedge, they care more of their image than their body. |
