This song was written by Sting for the movie Kate and Leopold, which was about time travel and falling in love. For some reason the 3/4 time signature really evokes for me the ticking of a clock, and not just because it is marked with a metronome - although that is also a great way to portray not just the concept of time travel from the movie, but the idea of fleeting moments and the transience of everything in life, which is what makes love so bittersweet. |

When I listen to this song I think she has just broken up with someone and he is driving her home. So she knows it's over but doesn't want to believe it. She doesn't want him to drop her off because that will really be the end, whereas while they're in the car she can pretend everything's still all right. |
