I think it's basically about taking care of someone who is struggling. "It's depressing me to see you struggle". Pretty simple. The part when it's talking about eliminating needs for faucets and whatnot kind of means releasing someone and setting them free. I guess eliminating any needs would be a way of setting someone free and giving them a "safe shell" (as referenced in the song). "Don't want to see you floating upside down On the top of the bowl when I come around to visit you" ^^Don't want to see you hit rock bottom, yenno? My favorite part: "If they summon the rains now Are you gonna rise?" To me, that phrase is kind of like, "Are you going to be able to rise above anything that tries to knock you over?" |

| Sorry, I accidentally sent that before I was finished. I think it's a dysfunctional home because of all the lies that are mentioned, and also the "what's the point in all this screaming/no one's listening anyway" line. And "your mother loves your father cause she's got nowhere to go". I don't know. If you re-read the lyrics with the dysfunctional family raising an innocent little girl idea, it makes a lot of sense. | |

| I'm surprised more people haven't commented on this song. It's a sad song, but for some reason, it's kind of comforting to listen to. You know when you bask in your miserable state and you somehow feel better? This song is good for that, especially if you really ARE missing someone. | |

I agree with thelemon. I think this boy and girl had a falling out, still love each other, but aren't able to patch things up...at least not now because it's too soon [maybe in five or ten yours and mine will meet again and straighten this whole thing out]. Things are just rocky between them, and being together involves a lot of heartache. I also see it like this: this girl hurt this boy, and he is too hurt to fix things [there's really no way to reach me. I'm already gone]. |

I see it more like this guy wanted a girl for so long, and by the time he has gotten over her, she wants him. Hence, "even though you've waited so long to see the day when she will turn to you again" and "so long, my friend is what you say". Maybe they broke up, and the guy still wants her, and THEN as soon as she realizes she wants him too, he changes his mind...?...sorry, this made a lot more sense in my head, haha. |

At least once in your life, you will love someone, and after the relationship is over, you will look back and beat yourself up over all the mistakes you made. You will blame yourself for the bad breakup. (I shouldn't have treated him/her like that, I should have controlled my temper, I should have respected his/her needs, etc.) To me, this song says to go for love again, but don't screw it up. Example: "When you fall, don't make the same mistakes..." |

| The fact that he calls at 7:03 to "slur" an apology gives me the impression that he's drunk. Even though the eye really does see things upside down, maybe it sheds light on being drunk. Just what I thought when I first heard the song. | |
