THIS: "Did she pull you down? Did that bring you down? Don't let it all get you so far down" AND THIS: "Was it hard to wait? Was it worth your wait? Baby we'll make it worth our wait" The most ingenious use of the same word in 3 lines. Beautiful.. |

| The Lucksmiths – Guess How Much I Love You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
GOOD FRIDAYE MATE, Remember when you were a kid & you use to tell people I LOVE YOU THIS MUCH & like you'd spread out your arms as far as they would go. Yeah, just a random thought. Kinda reminds me of this song which is stunning by the way. The use of, "much more, more than that, more than that" following "guess how much I love you" & "but it's more than that, it's more than that" following "on a map the gap's three fingers" is beyond the perfect utilization of lyrics known to man, just about. love/love/love the lucksmiths & this song :) |

Fabulous imagery. Pins & needles & wire & paperclips. Relationships have a beginning, middle, & an end. This song isn’t about the beginning of a relationship. |

| Tilly and the Wall – A Perfect Fit Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Just so you know that comment made someone two steps closer to suicide. Oh, but it wasn't me or anything. I mean, some people can't even play nice on a songmeanings site & find it acceptable to bash a certain group of people. How ignorant indeed. I've obviously offended a member of that group & my sincerest apologies as it was meant to be meaningful in all its absurdity; but I can understand how a philistine might misinterpret it. Likewise, how ironic to bring up dostoevsky (who wasn't emoe in the slightest sense I'd like to point out). Yeah, disrespectful language & interpretations just don't have their place in a place like this. Then again, "talking nonsense is man's only privilege that distinguishes him from all other organisms." But I couldn't tell you who said that one. | |
| Tilly and the Wall – A Perfect Fit Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is about a person who has a friend who just turned "emoe." See, this person tries to help their friend as the "blood spills down" their arm, which is clearly attributed to their "emoe tendencies" & they just can't believe their friend has given into this fad/trend & they desperately try not to believe what they see on display in front of their eyes. "And I knew right then it wasn't you." Their friend mostly likely has stumbled into this mainstream movement in response to a breakup or attack of the heart which had led them to be "lost into a light" that is "so brightly false." Yeah, it's a kitchen scene & the dumb emoe kid reveals themselves as the "weak imposter." This person wonders how their friend could possibly be caught in the "current" the current times, the trend, the fad & likewise -- popular conformity. "No, no, I won't believe" they cry. They don’t want to acknowledge that their friend is like everyone else & has no individuality & soul & hopes desperately that they "will remember" that is, who they use to be. They want to see their friend "free" from craze conventionality & they will be there to hold their hand to help them out of their stereotypical "emoeness" & recall the person they use to be. This EMOtional debacle is full force in the subsequent lynching scene as the emoe kid is "strung up" by their "emotions," lets say. The crowd is urging them to conform to something & pressure is always overwhelming. GIVE IN. "They want you to believe them." Society wants you to give into the trend & of course it feels good, it feels welcoming as though it is where you belong & the "perfect fit" describes just that. It's too bad that once they get you in that position as tempting as it is, that "perfect fit" will only lead to your demise --- your hanging, the death of who you are as an individual. This person tries to convince their friend to not "go through with it" because at this point, they still have hope. It's like they're in line at the record store all tricked out in their emoe attire with the latest Bright Eyes release in their hands. No, they haven't bought it yet so prophylactic intervention is still possible & that is what this song is all about. "Don't let your friends be emoe" is the message. Tilly & The Wall is the answer. | |
