i love this song. thanks for putting it up. i think its about being very different with someone that you're in a relationship with, but just being it in because you want to be. but its a contradiction because despite your differences, you're with that person anyway. and you're gonna use that person for your needs if you know if its wrong. and i'm open to my interpretation being totally off. :) |

i don't think its completely evident if the songwriter is a believer in God or not. but i think he's definitely saying the world is in decay, its full of war, greed and hardship. darwin, or an athiest's viewpoint is that the world is the way it is because of scientific chance, it could possibly end the same way. there is ultimately no end purpose to life. while a believer's viewpoint is that the world is messed up, but there's hope, and that existence is because of intelligent purpose and the possibility of an afterlife. a believer's life and an athiest's life are physically the same, but its their view of the world that can affect the way they live. much like classical hymns, the songwriter empathises with struggle and identifies his hope and longing for God. i find that this song exudes an intelligent meditation on existence and not merely a blind faith in religion. |

just discovered this band when they opened for blind pilot last night in san francisco. they put on one of the best live performances i've seen in awhile. i liked them more than the main act! amazing trio of musicians who switched instruments between songs. so talented! each of them could play almost every instrument! and amazing musicality. going back to true folk roots. what a surprise! they could end up being one of my favorite new artists of this year. sorry, this has nothing to do with this song, but i had to gush someplace about them. i love this song by the way. almost every song on this album is amazing. thanks to whoever that put these up! |

i looooove pedro the lion! greatest musician of all time! (in my book) i just went to a bon iver show last night at the fox theater in oakland, which is one of the best venues ever to see a show, and i couldn't help imagine how awesome it would be if pedro (full band) rocked that place. maybe like a greatest hits show or something. but i think bazan is past all that. sorry my post wasn't really about this specific song which i love, but on a side note, does anyone know very simple chords to this song, so the rest of us can play and sing along on our guitars? |

i find it very wrong to display anger and hatred towards those who believe in religion and vice versa. christians might think they know everything about athiests... basically that they're "lost", but there's so much more to people than that. athiests might think they know everything about christians, that they're foolish and brainwashed, but they actually don't know anything about why people choose to be christians. please, just have respect for one another and don't assume that you know everything because no one really does. don't be arrogant in the knowledge of what you do know, but explain and converse in patience and respect for your fellow person. i personally am a believer, but not a fan of the organized church. you can email me if you're interested in why, but just wanted to say i'm glad i get to listen to pedro the lion. |
