This reminds me of my insomnia/depressed days. feeling restless, hopeless, frustrated. and feeling more hopeless and frustraged when a new day starts and you havent slept, you're just been thinking of people and things and situations thawt did or could have happened. i was abused as a child and because of peer pressure from family members not to tell the cops (it was a family member-in law who did it) i never got totell the police. for me the parts of this song that stand out are "get off the ledge and turn the knife- not a victim of a victim's life, this aint a room full of suicides, we're believers, i believe tonight..." because i dislike the trouble i have with ptsd, so i sometimes blame myself for things i do wrong, which, as this song suggests to me, i shouldnt. also, i like the parts about "save yourself tonight" because so often i feel bad for needing to talk to a counsellor or friend when i'm blue, and there are times when it's really hard to deal with it alone, but this is like an affirmation or "i can do this! Also, "Well the good guys die and the bad guys win (who cares!) It ain t about all the friends you ve made But the graffiti they write on your grave" i fear the bad guy got away and that he's won, but he's killing himself with drugs, so that's good, and people what been told what he's done, whether they belive it or not, so at least that's what he'll be known for, i'll be known as a kind, talented person with lots of friends, he's child abuser who turned to drug using and made his children hate him. |

i like all of these meanings i thought it just meant the rivalry between them (maertha being in his shadow) becuase everyone paid attention to rufus and his musical tallents and his "variety weekend shows for grandma" and she was left to sing in her room because no one expected her to be musical. but now she's on tour (well, not NOW) but yeah, she tours as one of rufus' backing singers and in his band where she plays banjo and more. so that's what i thought when it said "Sold to a tremendous shadow" and yes, about how she will have to use her girlish charms, while he did whatever he wanted, royaly screwed up and still became successful. |

"Everything about 'em is a little bit stranger, a little bit harder A little bit deadly" - side effects, hard drugs and lethal. "Can't expect the world to be your Raggedy Andy While running on empty you little old doll with a frown" cant expect everyone to be kind and understanding and stron for you just because youre comming down from drugs or running on empty and wanting more. "gotta keep in the game, maintaining mistique..." contuinue with every day life and not be so obvious to the audience/public. a little bit heiress- could be saying he's a bit of a "queen" a little bit irish- he really is part irish and feels more at home there when away from newyork than he does anywhere else in europe. |
