I love the lines: One left a sweater sitting on the train And the other lost three fingers at the cannery As these are both tradgedies to the respective girls. I can just see some girls from my school flipping out about loosing a sweater, and if three of their fingers were chopped off. |

| Gorillaz – El Mañana Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Davenportido, I don't think this song is about Iraq, either, but it's not a rediculous idea. I mean, the Dirty Harry song+video is obviously about the Iraq war. | |
| Gorillaz – Spitting Out The Demons Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song ties in with Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head (e.g.- Jumping out of aeroplanes, hinding out in holes) Also, if you go to the "Hellhole" room in kong studios (gorillaz.com), you'll notice the volcano (Monkey?) "spits" out skulls, and possibly demons. |

| The Decemberists – The Island: Come and See; The Landlord's Daughter; You'll Not Feel the Drowning Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Does anyone else think that "You'll Not Feel the Drowning" is about a woman of wealth that births a physically/mentally challenged baby, and drowns it out of shame? I feel she is wealthy because of the reference to dimes, but that could be something completly different. By the way, the Landlord's Daughter is my favorite song on the new album. |

| The Decemberists – I Don't Mind Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I thought the first line was "Julie, with this thorn in your side." I agree 100% about the third verse. That's actually the first thing I thought of when I heard this song. The girl dreaming about killing herself for attention makes a lot of sense. I can just imagine her in some big theater, on stage with a full house of people there to watch her kill herself. And the crowd just begins clapping and cheerring when she is done. Maybe she thinks no one loves her, and they'll all be happy when she dies? The second verse doesn't make much sense too me, but I don't mind. |

| The Decemberists – The Apology Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I would love it if someone wrote me a song to make up for something that was stolen of mine. Especially if they put it on a CD. "I'm really sorry, Sean, but your Identity has been stolen..." |

| The Decemberists – On the Bus Mall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think a bus mall is either a place where buses (usually school buses) are parked over night, while not in use, or another word for bus station. Even though everyone says this is about male prostitutes, I like to think it's about a poor/homeless couple (boy & girl) who run away from their previous life and live on the street, and are forced to whore themselves out for money to purchase pills, make-up, or stay in a hotel room for a couple of nights. They may even challenge people in bars to games of pool for money. They may stay close to a bus mall so that as soon as they have enough money they can completely leave their past life. Just my two cents. |

| The Decemberists – The Bagman's Gambit Lyrics | 19 years ago |

black and white? I imagine them in sepia... like an old silent movie, with all the grain and little scratch lines on the film and stuff. Wait. What're we talking about? I've only listened to the whole song maybe 3 times since I've had this CD (a long time). Each time I listen to it I say "Wow, I like this song, I should stop skipping over it on my iPod." But when the time comes, I do it anyway. |

| The Decemberists – We Both Go Down Together Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
(This lyric from the chimbley sweep really jumps out at me: "'Oh, lonely urchin!' the widow cried 'I've not been swept since the day my husband died' Her cheeks are blushing, her legs laid bare And shipwrecked there, I'll shake you from your sleep ") |

fadetoflashes, If the baby is ejected while the mother falls off a cliff, where dose the baby land? At the bottom. Wait. As soon as I typed that I realized that Leslie died with her mother. You might be right. |

| The Decemberists – We Both Go Down Together Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I agree with the point that the girl is not-so-much in love with the man that raped her and possibly impregnated her with Leslie. If you listen to the song as if the man is begging/yelling/pleading, it makes more sense. (To me at least.) But, if you take what a Stylus Magazine editor said ("Still harboring angst over her mother's relationship with a man of lower class, which resulted in her own birth, the wraith of Leslie Anne aimlessly haunts the town's balconies with rattle in hand...") Who would be much lower in class then a teenage girl in slavery (assumed because of "labour camps")? A Chimbley Sweep, perhaps? |
