The first verse refers to when he is a youthful and idealistic musician. He spends long nights performing but his gf/wife still stands by him. The Chorus is him talking in the present tense, looking back at his life. And how he promised his signigicant-other the world when he made it big and realizing that it hasn\'t happened yet. The next stanza is him when he is older. He sees his \"old guitar\" i.e. his first guitar he used to perform with. I think the line \"I\'m torn between the things that I should do\", means his heart is in being a muscian, but the reality is that he needs a real job to make a better life for his wife. The second chorus is almost identical to the first except in the first he says \"I will find a way, find a way...\" meaning he is still a dreamer. The second chorus says \"I will find a way, while she waits... while she waits for me\", seems a little less convincing and he seems resigned to his fate of being a starving artist. |
