The Dresden Dolls – Gravity Lyrics 19 years ago
Why the song \'Gravity\' is about Amanda being a vampire:

\'Gravity plays favorites\' may be referring to something holding her back, that she\'s being held on earth and cannot ascend to heaven.
\'I know it \'cause I saw\' could mean that she\'s been watching her friends/loved ones die and go to heaven.

\'Down at work I\'m getting too familiar with the floor\' might be that her work is immortality and she has to be in coffins, which are on the floor.

\'Trading in my talents by the mouthful\' could be that with every mouthful of blood from her victims she becomes a little less human.

\'Hate to break it to you, but it\'s out of my control\' may mean that once you become a vampire, you can\'t go back.

\'Forces go to work while we are sleeping\' is pretty self explanatory, vampires can only go out at night.

\'If I could attack with a more sensible approach, obviously that\'s what I\'d be doing\' could mean that if she could survive some other way than killing humans, then she would.
\'…Right?\' Might mean that she probably would still drink blood even if there was another way to survive.

\'Necks are cracking sideways\' refers to how vampires drink from the neck.

\'I am one the white side, you are on the black side\' might mean that she and humans are complete opposites, such as the colors black and white. Using the color white might also mean that maybe she isn\'t on the bad side, you just have to see it from her point of view and that humans are actually the evil ones.

\'Cut a piece that\'s bite size\' refers to biting to drink blood.

\'Gravity works slowly if you notice it at all\' could mean that vampires are all around you, but you don\'t notice them because you are so caught up in your own mortality, which is very fast compared to theirs.

\'If you had to live with this you\'d rather lie than fall\' might mean that if you were immortal, then you would rather live hunting humans than suffering without human blood, so don’t be hypocritical because you don’t know what it\'s like.

\'You think that I can\'t fly, well you just watch me\' could be referring to you thinking immortality is forever (flying meaning going to heaven), but she thinks she can find a way to get out of it.

\'The sky is always falling down on me\' refers to how vampires cannot face the sun, so the sky is always a reminder of her immortality.

\'So officer, please forgive me\' might mean that she cannot help being what she is, so please don’t condemn her for it.
