it has been shown that interest in music exemplifies intellect in pattern recognition and other forms of cognition. of all the music forms, rap is considered the least intellectual given there is little musical pattern to it, it's just the same sound over and over again (and the artist isn't even playing it, someone else is making it on a computer or fx or whatever); it's not real music. in case anyone's wondering, orchestral music is considered the most 'intelligent'. i'm not making this up because i listen to orchestral, i don't listen to it that much. also, people who make the music of their respective category tend to be as smart as their musical field is considered to be; ochestral composers, like mozart, tend to have way above average intelligence, while, not suprisingly, rappers are the least intelligent; just look at the weakest link rappers edition and it's quite evident |

player, perhaps he knew people liked to listen to produced "music" that the "artist" who "wrote" it employed people to make stupid sounds in the background; half the reason why people like rap 'music' is because of the 'music' in the background; "don't you ever in your fuckin life correct me" -player you clearly reflect the lack of intellect this 'artist' displays; only someone with the airheadness of a rap fan/'gangsta' would act as stupid as that; perhaps tupac changed your life...for the better? presh, my understanding of the song is, itself, based on the unreliability of opinions; because someone doesn't like the song, he cant understand it? where do you find the poetry in the song? perhaps we have different opinions on the definition of the word. it takes little common knowledge to know that people who speak slang generally are not that bright |

| moderator, it's hard to expect positive feedback when the combined iq level of rap fans on this page is about 25. you find rap lyrics virtuous, but not real music lyrics? don't forget, rappers don't make real music, they shouldn't even be on this website; it's like saying orchestral music is singing | |
| Kanye West – Jesus Walks Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
lastgoodbye, i don't think you need to listen to the song long to know that it sucks; it's amazing rap managed to make it on this website in the first place; rappers don't play instruments, they don't make music....saying rap is music is the equivalent of saying orchestral music is singing |

fade.out, memorization has no correlation with intellect? intelligence encompasses all forms of cognitive applications. not only that, but if one could not spell or talk, he would be far less inclined to be able to perform any other cognitive tasks efficiently. i'm sure there are many 'gangstas' who could beat me up, but i'm not sure that has much relevance; the culture itself is a joke, there was an archetype, and people followed, that's where it's flaws lie. they act like they're truly badass, like crime is 'cool'; what about crime is cool??? that's what's stupid about it. you're right, poverty has little to do with happiness. do the research yourself, it is not a fair generalization given that most people who commit suicide are white, most people with a mental illness are white, etc. this is a more complicated issue than it seems, but if you need me to spell out the reasons why, just ask i am not stupid, i know that that is a metaphor; but people do not take the time to analyze songs, they look at it as it is on the surface; do you honestly think hard rockers mean all of the things they say literally? that's the point i was trying to make if you need a walkthrough about anything else, just ask |

posted by player1916: "he (tupac) didnt have the best flow but he was smarter than ANY musician (including every type of music)" people, i'm sorry to report that the smartest musician this world has ever produced...can't even spell the word "the" correctly, and writes about his alleged gang ties that he seems to be proud of in the vast majority of his songs "Love for dem dat steal in the name of da Lord Dem a tell nuff lie but holdin my bird in a cloud Usin de name of de Lord in vein While de people in de ghetto, feel nuff pain" THIS is the smartest musician ever...? i mean, i could understand if you had said the most sleazy, or that rap is the most sleazy genre of music, but the smartest musician???? |

| Tool – Parabola Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| there is a prelude to this song (parabol), and it's clearly about the idea of dealing with pain, and the lyrics are quite similar, so i believe this song too is about dealing with pain | |

and sadly, the opinions of illiterates and rap morons brandishing their illicit weapons and phony tough guy attitudes (don't forget those unpaid parking tickets, those are rough) are a little less significant than people with taste in music and that listen to real music I can't make your opinion any less valid than it is, nevertheless, anyone who hasn't passed 2nd grade grammar can agree with me that rappers aspire to be as stupid as they are However, i don't blame you for listening to this trash. People all over the world (12-25 year olds) listen to this because they think they are tough, or that living their life is tough. Now think about this, you know those popular girls at school who always act like drama queens, pretend their life is sad, and listen to that pop/alternative music that is similar to them, well, people that listen to rap are the same, they think their life is tough so they listen rap. rock does not do that (for the most part, most bands), that is why you see people who are GENUINELY sad, or live a tough life, listening to rock. To be honest, i don't know what tupac's life is like, or whether what he says is real, though some of his comments are ridiculous (my personal favorite is how the white man is keeping him down, he lives in the hood, he says it is mostly black, don't you think it would be kind of hard to accomplish considering he probably rarely sees white people; the only way white people are involved in his life is that they pay his city's taxes (and thus, fund the police department, i guess that's how they're holding him back)) You say i can't convince a tupac fan that tupac sucks, you didn't have to tell me that, i'm not stupid, that applies to all forms of music and their fans, besides, rap fans tend to be too stupid and stubborn to consider other forms of music I think it's comical how some rap/pop/whatever fans say that hard rock is blasphemus. These lyrics from this song look like they were taken straight from a heavy metal song (or a paranoid schizophrenic): "Who's got the heart to stand beside me? I feel my enemies creepin up in silence Dark prayer, scream violence - demons all around me" |

| what i'm trying to say is rap takes no talent, it is nothing more than pop music. Rappers don't make their own beats, and sometimes don't even write their own lyrics. Some people seem to be under the delusion that rap takes talent and is meaningful. This is just my opinion, but i fail to see what is so meaningful about the themes of most rap songs. You don't need to be that bright to realize that rap isn't complicated, the songs are written by (or for) people who either are, or want to be, an idiot. I'll admit there are some songs (such as Until the end of time by tupac, and some eminem and some others) that do actually have some meaning in them, but even those songs aren't as good as people say they are. | |

| 50 Cent – In Da Club Lyrics | 19 years ago |

if curtis jackson's life consists of fornication, drug abuse, and illiteracy, then that isn't exactly the type of person anyone should be looking up to. Worst of all, jackson seems to enjoy and promote this way of life to his fellow illiterates, making it all the worse. Sorry, i don't live in "da club", "da hood", nor anywhere else that begins with the word "da", nor do "pick daisies in the meadow", but i do know that any person, regardless of family income, has a social expectation and obligation to, in general, be a good person and not write (or endorse) media that is as low-life as this: "You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs I'm into having sex, I ain't into making love So come give me a hug if you into getting rubbed" How don't care how poor you are, it isn't acceptable, especially if you claim that you are upset that people don't respect rappers (that's what curtis jackson said about oprah, that she doesn't respect rappers; i wonder why) writing lyrics like that isn't going to earn you respect, nor is it cool, tough, cute, or whatever he thinks it is, it's just going to make people not like you |

The roswell/alien story wasn't started by the government, the governmnet refused to respond on the incident. It was the public who came up with the alien story. I think maynard does believe in aliens. He's certainly agnostic The universe is so big, the chances of life existing on another planet are probably very high |
|
| Tool – Lateralus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'm sure someone has already said this, but i think the song is about first seeing the factual and concrete part of life ("black and white are all i see in my infancy") and then learning the abstract and opinionated ideas of life ("red and yellow then came to be"), such as religion | |

'andthentherewasN' said "something as trivial as a girlfriend" Exactly my point |
|
| Jay-Z – 99 Problems Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
'delmoreskeg' said "I really think this song is a mockery of emo and "white" music. The problem is always a woman, and the song writer is always devistated by a failed relationship. I mean, that is what 90% of all songs are about. What Jay Z is saying is that those aren't real life problems. Especially when compared to the life problems of an African American. Even a successful one such as himself. That's what I take from it anyway." I'll admit, emo SUCKS, but to say rock and roll, classic rock, and normal modern rock is all whiney is ignorant. Not every rock or heavy metal song is about a girl, many are, but most aren't. It's no wonder why jay-z could care less about women, just look at the lyrics of his songs (in this one he refers to his girlfriend as a "bitch"). Perhaps the crime "white" music has commited is treating their women like humans and caring deeply about them to the extent that if they lost them, they would be deeply hurt. Problems relating to love are much worse (no matter what the "african american" problem, whatever that is) than ANY other problem. It doesn't matter what problem it is, if you (or atleast, I) had someone you loved by your side, that problem wouldn't be as bad. But i guess that doesn't apply to rappers and hip hoppers because they care more about gangbanging issues than the pains, hurts, and needs of their girlfriends; they could care less about their girlfriend/wife, to them, women are just sex tools As for the meaning of this crappy song, I assume the 99 problems jay-z is referring to are all of the mediocre songs he has produced |
|
| Kanye West – Gold Digger Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| 'chocalesprinkles' i am not refering to JUST this song as not being poetic, i am talking about rap/hip-hop in general, all of it, EVERY song that is hip hop is NOT poetic, nor in any way comparable to the intricate and metaphoric lyrics of such bands at Tool and Led Zeppelin (among others) | |
| Kanye West – Gold Digger Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I don't get it WHAT is so incredible or poetic or beautiful about "She was spose to buy ya shorty TYCO with ya money She went to the doctor got lypo with ya money She walking around looking like Micheal with ya money Should of got that insured got GEICO for ya moneeey,(money, money) If you ain't no punk holla We Want Prenup WE WANT PRENUP!, Yeaah" and "she ain't messing with no broke niggaz" THAT'S poetic? really, i guess retards have different perceptions of poetic than me; i would say these Cradle of Filth (yes, they scream, but that doesn't change the difficulty of lyric writing) lyrics are poetic "Cold was my soul Untold was the pain I faced, when you left me A rose in the rain (later in song) Bared on your tomb, I am a prayer for your loneliness, And would you ever soon come above unto me? For once upon a time, From the binds of your lowliness, I could always find the right slot for your sacred key" THAT really is poetic, it's from their song nymphetamine, the song is about the breakup/death of his loved one |

i think it's time kanye prays to god for half a brain and some basic grammar and vocabulary skills "the only thing that i pray is that ME feet don't fail me now" SHOULD BE "the only thing that i pray is that MY feet don't fail me now" "i don't think there is NOTHING i can do now to right my wrongs" SHOULD BE "i don't think there is ANYTHING i can do now to right my wrongs" (but he can start by not making DREADFUL music that we have to listen to on low-budget jake gyllenhaal films) HUSTLAS SHOULD BE HUSTLERS "we rappers are role models, we rap, we don't think" you got that right kanye MORON |

| 50 Cent – Da Repercussions Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I'm impressed, the moron finally managed to use a one, two, THIRTEEN lettered word Astounding how someone can spell repercussion and still fail to spell 'the' correctly nevertheless, while on the topic of English spelling and grammar, isn't it about time someone told this dipshit that his name should be pronounced 50 CENTS, not 50 cent? |

| Tupac Shakur – When I Get Free Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
mr. tupac shakur frequently talks about how their should be a black president didn't anyone ever tell him that the reason why many people distrust black people is because they advertise themselves as murderous sociopaths? He speaks about the evils of racism and stereotyping and yet he, himself, is guilty of this crime. Many of his songs are about Muslim shiites as being bad people because some of them are suicidal bombers; well, he can rest assured that not all Muslims fly Boeing 747's into skyscrapers just as not all black people make less-than-noteworthy music with mediocre lyrics (and not all "whiteys" are racist. If he wants a black president, perhaps he (and other rappers) should be little more classy and stop making songs about how they were incarcerated for the mass of crimes they committed unremorsefully; then, black people won't be seen as "pimps" and felons, and thus, will gradually gain "whiteys" trust back (and their might be a black president) Honestly, talk about an idiot, I guess his unfailing intelligence and "beautiful" lyrics couldn't perceive that |
|
| Tool – H. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| personally, i like to relate songs to my own life, and to me this song is about seeing the bad side of life and depressing times and then experiencing an epiphany and deciding that you will no longer be afraid to take risks because, hey, what's the worst that could happen | |
| 50 Cent – Many Men (Wish Death) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
perhaps one of the most amazing talents of the rock/metal genre is their literacy and their ability to spell words like 'dog' and 'neighborhood' correctly Good God, you would think that if these people were as rich as they claim they are, they would be able to afford a formal education and move out of "da hood" |
|
| Tupac Shakur – Letter To The President Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
all of tupac's songs are about his non-existant problems that he claims are a result of the fact that he is black; (because i guess black people face so many problems nowadays) Well, after almost no effort, i have come up with a life saving recipe to save these people (rappers who claim they're poor) from starving in an alley; ready, here it comes...... JOIN THE FUCKING MILITARY ---- not only do you get paid, but you also get fed, OH WAIT, YOU'RE TOO MUCH OF A PUSSY TO JOIN THE SERVICE, I thought you were all tough and shit, guess not; or perhaps it's because you have a family; well in that case your a complete moron; you're supposed to make sure have enough money and a good paying job BEFORE you start a family, not start a family and then search frantically for quarters and scraps of singles on the road (before ultimately turning to the the most shallow (and gayest) form of music ever invented) |
|
| Tupac Shakur – Black Jesus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
you're half-right 'grovestreet', pop, punk and emo are gay, but the reason why you don't hear about them being controversial is b/c they don't endorse murder and "pimping," you hear about rock (heavy metal to be specific and only heavy metal) being controversial because they directly question the validity of religion And who the hell are you kidding, 'bynarie', just because tupac is the closest thing to meaningful rap lyrics about his extensive criminal record, doesn't mean he "wrote real shit that no one will ever top", i, for one, can think of numerous classic and modern rock bands that write more meaningful lyrics than this crap, such as led zeppelin, metallica, cradle of filth, and tool. Their lyrics are both meaningul and metaphorical fuck all you gun-toting hip gangster wannabees" -James Maynard Keenan |
|
| 50 Cent – In Da Club Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
FUCK ALL YOU GUN TOTING HIP GANGSTER WANNABEES Rap is just the new disco; it will die out because of rock you people seem to think that rap is the most popular form of music; and you're right, that is, among 14-25 year olds, that's why there's so much of this crap on MTV If you go look up whats the most popular form of music IT WILL BE ROCK, CLASSIC ROCK TO BE SPECIFIC; the most popular song (this was proven with radio requests) is Stairway to Heaven (zeppelin), the top selling band of all time is the Beatles, and the top selling album of all time is Eagles greatest hits with 60 million sales, more than any rappers entire collection of cd's combined |
