Tom Waits – Take One Last Look Lyrics 3 years ago
It was a farewell song to David Letterman the night George Clooney spent the show handcuffed to Dave, newly written and performed on one of the last few shows. To my knowledge it hasn\'t appeared on an album yet. The lyrics are filled with positive and supportive references to travelling through change. David Letterman has had Tom on as a guest through all 3 incarnations of his show and has always been a big supporter, I just think Tom was returning the favor with a song.\nThe first verse is about performing actions with intention, not just letting anything happen -"leave the cards on the table, leave the bread on the plate, put your hand on the gearshift, put you foot off the brake".\nThe second is about examination of the act - the bed, the arrow, the car, and the choice.\nThe third is about the future. "Let\'s look forward to the lights that are new"\n\nBut that\'s just how I see it today. I love "put your foot off the brake" and "churches, tire shops, stop signs, and hire cops".
