I think "Us" refer to important person or heroes in the past who had done sth important for their cities. "They" refer to people after "Us" 's generation. "They" made a statue of "Us" but the statues are not important(just for take photograph for fun.) "They" named a city after "Us"(though "Us" fought and died for the city but "Us" didn't.) and if the city has sth bad,"They" just blamed "Us". "They" stole a goodness from "Us"(so the city is a den of thieves and if u don't believe,she gets u to rummage in the history pages). The parts of "Us" are slightly used in the history("Us" wear scarves like a noose didn't mean they want to sleep forever). And then it's contagious so nowadays "Us" are just statues and begin to rust(The excerpt "The sculptor's marble sends regards" ,I think Regina want to say that the statues of "Us" don't important anymore ,just a marble statue that sculptors interest.) This is what I think about this song. I am Thai and my English isn't very good,sorry if someone can't understand what I type. |
