| Catch 22 – A Minor Point (1922) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The revolution hasn't ended it has only shifted phase. Trotsky was right, as long as the proletariat continues to fight the revolution will never die. | |
| Rx Bandits – Newstand Rock (The Bottom Line Exposition) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"Violence equals violence and it's no solution" So true, we feel we're justified in our killing but no one else is. We can't stop a war with a war. |

| Rx Bandits – Overcome (The Recapitulation) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The revolution is coming, what will you do when it does? | |
| Streetlight Manifesto – We Will Fall Together Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think there's a little satire near the end when he says: Now, with the line drawn in the wet sand, You need to tell us where to stand (Sitting waiting watching rotting) Everything they warned us of is true Now tell me what we're all supposed to do They're coming after all of us with everything they've got With the fury of a soldier who will answer to his God So how will we fight? All we have is logic and love on our side... He doesn't really think they're right he says it to dysplay the absurdity of them attacking us for our lack of beliefs while at the same time profesing to love others, especially when we have logic and love on our side! |

| Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love the disregard for the absurdity that religions often force down our throats. Am I really going to be tortured for all of eternity just for not believing your specific brand of mythology? Well if so then I'll see you in Mephisto's cafe. | |
| Streetlight Manifesto – Somewhere in the Between Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If on their next tour they come to D.C. you can bet I'll give them my money and convince every single one of my friends to go and give them money as well, but until then I'll just buy this most kick ass of all kick ass albums. But hey they dont care and as they put at the end of Keasbey Nights 2 "We'll keep doing what we're doing whether or not a single record is sold..." | |

First of all Mephisto is what the devil is called in "Faust" so Mephisto's Cafe is hell. Saying were going down to hell, is pointing out the absurdity of the message of eternal torture and the cruelity associatable with religious zealots. While the anti-religious messages are obvious it's not really an atheist message or a tirade against asking questions. Instead he is against being forced to choose a side at all, that includes Atheism and yes even agnostism. That's because each of those also have set beliefs that don't neccessarilly have to be true. He wants you to make up your own mind ignoring especially radical religious but also radicals on the other side (such as myself, thats right ignore me.) People will argue that this is the same as being agnostic, but that really is just not even trying to answer questions. With the part about the road being hard he suggests that such a simple result is not after all the goal. At the end he even tells you pretty directly that what he says is not set in stone either. "Well I know when I'm wrong and I sure as hell ain't wrong this time" there's irony here because he just proved that hell is in no way sure. This just enforces the idea that people need to make up there own mind. To conclude I want to say that anyone who says another person will go to "Mephisto's Cafe" for their beliefs should sure as hell spend some time there themselves. |

| Streetlight Manifesto – We Are The Few Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I want to call atention to a few minor details of the song that might have importance because of their apparent insignificance First the double negative in the chorus: "won't say nothing right" To be honest I think Tomas is too good a lyricist to put in poor grammer unless there was a point. One possiblity is to fit the meter, but again I think he's too good for that. Rather I think it is to establish ambiguity to that line: maybe they always seem right but are wrong or vice versa, or maybe he's simply trying to blur the line between right and wrong. Second the apparanet question at the end: "all i know is i got to do something... right?" Again I think the point of this is to question our preestablished notions of right and wrong which is what I think much of the song is about. Finally "Dear, Mr. Gepetto" wasn't Gepetto the old man in Pinochio? The only explanation I've seen for this is the one that suggests that this is adressed moderately to God. This seems to fit for the first verse but after that the suggestion makes a bit less sense. If anyone has another idea about Gepetto please share. |

| Catch 22 – Dear Sergio Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I hate to say this on a sight that is clearly full of catch 22 fans, but I think the Streetlight Manifesto version is a bit better. In fact if you haven't already check them out Kalnoky and a couple other Catch members joined with another band to form S.M. and they rock. | |

1st when does the new album come out? 2cd to Jerseyred, you are kind of missing the point. He is not just saying that religions are wrong, he is saying that being forced to make any black and white choice is wrong. I do think that if forced to make a choice he would chose atheism, but a gray view is often more reasonable. No there isn't a hell and I sure as hell (irony...) am not going, but maybe there is a God that I can consider though not flat out accept. |

| Streetlight Manifesto – Keasbey Nights Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Every SM or I guess in this case catch 22 song is metaphorical. But saying that yes the litteral meaning is like the 1st explanation although not neccessarily a gang. He just got himself in trouble and he knows "they" are coming to get him. The metaphorical meaning behind it is more of a way to say that a person can hurt himself without ever meaning to and that society will never help them up. It is implied that this construction of society, to not ever help another unless there is personal benifit, needs to change. | |
| Streetlight Manifesto – Everything Went Numb Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
on face value it is about a raobbery that a man is in some way pushed into and seems to get away but with a mark on his consience or get caught and feel the consience battle could be with those who caught him depending on how you look at it but as with mosty SM songs the face value is hardly the true meaning. it is really a song about the desperation that some situations force a person into. other people looking on have no trouble pointing out right and wrong but without being in a similar situation they have no idea of the true desperation that this man who had nothing was in |

Im trying as hard as i can to get my high school to playthis at graduation: maybe someday I will look back and see the best days of my life maybe someday I will miss you but tonight the end feels right... i know this isn't the intent of the song but it fits so well |

| The Police – Invisible Sun Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| to "rikdad"'s question about whether or not northern ireland was really that bad any time in the 20th cetury the answer is yes definately yes; there is no more to say to you. However while this song is written about Northern Ireland it can really apply to the problems of the world as a whole and how if people stopped and looked at them long and hard they would lose all hope. But since people do have inexplicable hope, there has to be some psycological reason, personified here by the invisible sun. A few people have metioned a religious fealing to the song, but I truthfully dont see that at all it seems more like a cynical but realist assessment of the world. | |
