Hmm... i dont really see the drug reference, i mean i see it if you take out certain bits and look at it individually, but in the song as a whole it doesnt make sense. Like most of the monkeys songs, i think the meaning of the song is pretty clear, a guy who likes a girl and goes all funny whenever he sees her. Definitley a top song though... have to sing along to it whenevr i hear it... |

I agree that this album is different, but I'd say her two previous albums were different from each other as well. I wouldnt want her to be exactly the same, or else I'd get bored. As for my interpretations, in maneater, nelly is basically presenting the "maneater" image that some girls have, and putting it in a bad light, saying that this isnt what makes a good person. Whether this is someone she knows or just girls today in general i dont know. As for promiscuous, i see that song as a "have fun" song. The song has absolutley nothing to do with promiscuity however, so the title is very misleading. It's probably more of a story than giving out a message, but it does give a message of "its ok to have fun". Not everything has to be serious ya know? But thats just my interpretations so meh... |

I don't understand why people think the messages behind Nelly Furtado's songs have suddenly vanished... Just look at the lyrics and listen to the tone of the song, she isnt playing this maneater person in a good light. The song, to me, sends a message that the type of person that this maneater is, isnt a good one and isnt someone you should try to be like. This is an image that is being portrayed alot in todays world. I think this and Promiscuous have clear messages, why am I the only one that seems to be seeing them? |

This song is obviosuly about Chris' worries with his daughter Apple. Every first parent thinks about things like what if she doesnt like me, what if I'm a bad parent, what if I make a mistake that seriosuly fucks up her life. Of course, people can interpret it how they want, and adapt it to their own lives, but I'm pretty sure Chris meant it as a song to his daughter... |
