Paulson – Slow Down Lyrics 17 years ago
This is such an amazinnnng song. The whole simple jingle behind it is perfect for the light-hearted racy mood it's trying to emulate. Because it's definitely about living life and not trying to hurry to growing up.He compares it to a love relationship, where even though it feels great and the sex is probably amazing, he wants to 'slow down.' you know, takes things a little slower and just enjoy the relationship. He's just been swimming through life without really paying much attention and not caring about memories but just getting to the end, and now he realizes that he needs to cherish it.

Buckcherry – Crazy Bitch Lyrics 17 years ago
I like this song. It is pretty self-explanatory, though. So no interpretation required on the SONG MEANINGS site.

It's okay for people to post their opinions. This isn't just a comment box limited only to people who like it.

but I like it, simply because it's catchy and so blunt. It cuts the chase and goes straight to the point.

Good Shoes – Morden Lyrics 18 years ago
Pathetic. This site is not meant for people to argue about who's opinion is right or wrong. ALL OF YOU are stupid. There.

Besides, since when are songs supposed to be straightforward? Take a look at "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles. It doesn't matter. It's up to the listener/ reader to interpret the meaning. I'm so glad that people have provided such absolutely sufficient interpretations here, already!!!! :-( Pathetic....
So...for MY opinion:
I think that he's focusing on a city called Morden as an exemplar of societal flaws. For instance, racism - that explains the drunk people (usually people are irrational and careless and immoral when they are drunk) shouting to "get the foreigners out of our area," referring to the Chinese restaurant owners. As for the skinhead in a Burberry coat and a 50 pound shop, that implies expensiveness, which is why you wouldn't want to take your kids there. Lots of fragile expensive things, you know?
The government is ruled by Parliament, and the Queen is just a symbol of Great Britain's past. This may have to do with their possible lack of responsibility for all the crazy things happening? The way society has changed and turned super consumer-based and fast food-oppressed refers to the Wilkinson's and KFC. Perhaps people's appetites control them more than the government? Though I kind of doubt that theory. And then he goes on about death, pretty much, about murders on the street from angsty teenagers and automobile accidents. It's also kind of ironic that the word "Morden" kind of sounds like the latin root Mors, which itself means death. So is this a self-destructing society?

Basement Jaxx – Good Luck (feat. Lisa Kekaula) Lyrics 19 years ago
Yes, I agree with others who have commented. This song must most definitely be about abuse and relationships, and how the girl is finally getting the upper hand.

It totally DOES deserve to be on the top charts, though, yes!

I really love how it was incorporated into the soundtrack for APPLESEED, a Geneon Production, when we get the first view of the Utopian society, Olympus. It almost foreshadows a slightly different interpretation of the song with what will happen in the story.

Lisa Kekaula has an amazingly powerful voice, too.

Ska is punk and reggea, mixed, silly people.

The Clash have several reggea influenced songs, making those songs, ska, or specifically, reggea. No one said the Clash was a ska band.

Anberlin – Downtown Song Lyrics 19 years ago
This is my favorite song by Anberlin. How can there not be any comments already? Oh well. This song is pretty self-explanatory. But it always makes me wonder if there's some really sweet guy out there thinking of me, you know, who really loves me but just won't say it. Of course, it's not likely, but I can daydream, can't I? :-) but I love that line, "Just wanna be, just where you are, if ever you're lonely, I won't be far." I can't really say why I like it, it's just...passionate, you know? gahh. haha.

Anberlin – A Heavy Hearted Work of Staggering Genius Lyrics 19 years ago
I saw this title, and I first thought of David Egger's book, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius which is what he used to describe his book and what it's about. Hard work was put into it, it's insanely amazing despite everything, so much, that it "breaks hearts" or, makes one's heart heavy. Haha.

Anberlin – Change The World (Lost Ones) Lyrics 19 years ago
If I could write one letter to the world as we know it
I would list these rhymes that mean everything to me
^I think he's saying, hear me out, if I had only one thing to say to the world we have today, this is what I'd say:
Heartache temporary, Bullets only stop your blood
Pain will live on and on
In everyone, in everyone
^Heartaches ARE only temporary. Eventually, people can find ways to overcome them. Bullets, as in, suicide shooting sort of thing, only stop your life. But in the end, it hurts everyone else, because everyone else wonders what they could have done to cause or prevent this, the loss, etc, hurts. "Pain will live on and on in Everyone."

And we could change, we could change it down
We could change the world, we could strike the chord
We are the lost ones, we are the lost ones
We could re-write history, if only you and me
We are the lost ones, we are the lost ones
And We could change it down
^The chorus, I think, signifies him saying to these people, keep listening to me, it doesn't have to be this way, it won't be this way, if you just hear my words" sort of thing. "We could re-write history" as in, change the destiny or fate we thought we've found for ourselves.

The bottle holds no answers
His lips can only sway
Chemicals imbalance
Who needs them anyway?
^I think this is a reference to either the bottle of alcohol or the bottle of pills, both of which generally impair the chemicals in your brain if overdosed, because most pills people use for suicide are either depressants or painkillers. "Who needs them anyway?" could be the thought of the person who is doing this to themselves, as in, " I don't care anymore what I do to my body I don't need these chemicals to make me normal" kind of idea.
Desire is close at hand
Her lips can only sway
There's more to life than this
Don't give yourself away
^This could be giving away her life, her virginity, who knows, but she's nervous, and he's advising her to stop and think. " Don't give yourself away" don't let them know that this is what you want to be, don't throw your life away... it could have several meanings.

And there's your lovely letter written by Anberlin, the great.

Anberlin – Cold War Transmissions Lyrics 19 years ago
It sounds like he says "This is my ship, radio... calling you to come back home." even though it's not. But I often thought that's what he was saying until I looked it up. It makes much more sense. More silent treatment sort of things going on, it seems like, but he knows maybe using the "russian cold war threat" metaphor, that perhaps he himself is dangerous. The cold war was when both America and Russia were on edge and ready to strike, but knew it was impossible because either way they'd get hit and get damaged. So in this metaphor, he may mean that both of these people in this relationship are having some bumps in the road, and both want to say something but can't for fear of getting hurt, so he says "Run while you still can" calling out for her to either come back to him and fix things, as in, start talking again sort of thing, or dump him before things get worse. The end.

Anberlin – (The Symphony Of) Blase Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song describes a situation where a good friend is finally fed up of digging into another person's life, because despite their efforts, this person is constantly pushing them away, hiding their problems, perhaps taking advantage of the help being given to them, denying the fact that there could be something wrong at all, etc. So, the narration explains this by saying you know what? If you don't want me anymore, fine. sort of thing. but it's a sad goodbye, kind of thing. The fact that he's even saying goodbye and goodnight makes it sad, because it's breaking something very important to him.

Motion City Soundtrack – L.G. FUAD Lyrics 19 years ago
Strange how most people only look at parts of the song and only come out with the conclusions that it's about drinking or suicide.

"Lets get fucked up and die"
Generally, the phrase "fuck up" means to mess everything up so badly, for instance, we nowadays say "I fucked up bigtime" or something along those lines.
So perhaps he means here, let's mess everything up, then die for it, whether that means getting punished for it, or, messing up so badly he endangers his life. Or, wants to die afterhe makes this big mistake.

"I have learned to love the lie"
"I'm riding hard on the last lines of every lie"
This sounds like a person who's been pretty much used, and walked all over. It's come to the point where they are finally aware of this fact, but, they are still unsure of it, as if in denial.
So, they come up with reasons why this could possibly be, for instance, his problems and shortcomings.
But, he is used to them, and never realized that it might be a problem for everyone else.
"I am perfect."
The word "visceral" means relating to, pertaining to, or can be described as the intestinal area, known as your "viscera" (latin). Figuratively, though, it means intuitive or instinctive from the "gut" or "heart", it could also mean secret or inward, or as the instinctive reflex from one's most inner being.
"because I'm so visceral, yet deeply inept"
So perhaps he has made his decision to put aside his personal issues so that he may be "part of the club" and find himself a social life before his lonely life gets worse. The problem being, he is not very good with people. Thus, the "inept."

Sister Soldier is a song dedicated to the women who served in Vietnam. "what's an angel doing here in hell?" Perhaps his reference to this song, saying, "You've been such a positive influence on my mental frame" perhaps he lost someone who served in the war, literally, or, perhaps he learned something from this song. It could also be sarcasm, that this jazzy blues song he's heard has somehow made him think negatively or see things in a different light.
Still, he's "afraid [he's] alone and tiredly useless" because he's been used, and thrown away. He has no friends, he's incapable of finding anything to make friends or help people, and he's very lonely. In this loneliness, he's drawing into himself, drinking his frustrations away.
"It's the only way I've learned to express myself through other people's descriptions of life"
perhaps he feels he doesn't have a philosophy of his own, or, he prefers those of others which may seem more ideal to him than the one he lives in. So, using "other people's descriptions of life" by awkwardly stating the lyrics of another writer's song he's making his own song better using someone else's words, because they hit the nail on the head, so to speak, to describe what he wants to share with others.
Maybe this guy is not unique, or feels that way, and so for a while desires something better, "awkwardness and innocence", "usefulness and pertinence" but realizes it's not there for him, or, that he'd have to labor for it, and he's not sure if he can actually do it. Or, he may have lost hope.
and so, has decided to waste away, wallowing in his sorrows.
