Surprised that there aren't more comments on this one...this is an amazing song! I haven't researched but i think the meaning rings through pretty clear. It sounds like they've made the decision to leave their parents and friends (possibly engaged) and they know that they may get some resistance, but the way he speaks to her (possibly to calm her down and give her confidence that they have an incredible happy future together) is the part that gets me. It the way you should speak to a woman...and the way you should build each other up...this song is awesome! Great lyrics...great tune...and easy to play on the guitar! |

I think the whole meaning behind the phrase as used; "eclipsed", is that he is standing right in front of her, and is waiting for her to get over a past love that obviously has left her weak and untrusting of others. He loves her and is willing to wait...but will she even want to admit that she is falling for him when the time comes.
The song is amazing; so deep! It's my favorite on the album, but I really like all of their music. Their lyrics are put together so well, and its the reason I like this band so much! Great song! |

amazing song! he wasn't expecting to fall so hard for someone "i should've braced myself" but he has no regrets about doing so...even with the outcome of their situation (she is obviously taken by someone else) "but what good would that have been...i would have missed out on feeling". now he has to fight to keep his emotions to himself, something in which he can do in stride...but he still wants her to know that he will always have feelings for her "i'm right here for you...forever...on these cold nights". in his heart, he knows that the other person does not and cannot love her the way that he already does, and he is confident that she will return to him because he loves her more "does he hold you...and does he need you like i do...when you finally find yourself”. additionally, he knows that it will be hard for her to break down her walls when she realizes this, “will you have the strength to say, i feel you and god i need you". but until then, he's going to have to wait....forever. |
