The Mars Volta – Drunkship of Lanterns Lyrics 19 years ago
this is an amazing song but everything about the mars volta is so complicated and heavily built upon. so much so that the music hardly has a pattern and the lyrics are close to meaningless. that is no criticism though, it's the best thing about tmv. this song is breathtaking and it is a perfect example of how music has evolved to blur the boundaries of genre.

Radiohead – Talk Show Host Lyrics 19 years ago
this song kind of makes me think 'love is war'. it seems so passionately violent, u know with the guns and the breaking down of doors. the lyrics of this song are so ambiguous. it could be about love or it could be about hate but i suppose sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

Björk – Play Dead Lyrics 19 years ago
i think this song is about indulging in negative feelings and refusing to choose happiness. she's pushing the people who care about her away because it's as if she wants to be alone and depressed. fair enough. occassionally everybody just wants to wallow in a bit of self pity.

Tim Dogg, I'm so upset you don't like the distortion. I think it fits so well with the whole tortured soul vibe of the song.

I love the guitar in this song. Ingenious. Some crazy tricks there!

Blur – Parklife Lyrics 19 years ago
My take on it is that parklife (be it Castle Park life or modern amercianised life) is a scary thing so when observing it it is best to have confidence. the second line literally means that you can avoid traffic (morning soup) by taking the route through 'parklife'. but the deeper meaning could be that life is easy if you conform to the norm. John's 'brewer's droop' (erectile dysfunction) is caused by the fact that he finds the women he picks up (dirty pigeons) intimidating. The line about exercise and porklife are probably poking fun at American fat culture but not sure. the second verse is about how sickeningly comforting it is to know what's going to happen every day of your life. the fact that this guy knows his daily routine off by heart gives him a 'sense of enormous well being' and this is something which is presented satirically.
