Q: Hey, is "Sweet Tangerine" in any way connected to the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"? I remember that Clementine was nicknamed "Tangerine" when she dyed her hair orange, and so when I listened to the song again, I thought the lyrics seemed to come from Joel's point of view.

I wonder how many of us actually follow this song (myself included), I mean, it looks great in print, trying to be Godly and follow what he want for you by waiting, BUT, 80% of teenagers that promise to wait for marriage, lose their virginity before that. If you think of ten of your friends...
It's just sad that even though we say this and listen to this song, 80% of us won't be true to our word.
God can help us wait for the wedding ring, we just need to rely on him. |

I can see why people would take this literally as being upset at a girl, but could it have to do with "the scene", how everyone has great clothes, but he's changing what you're supposed to wear, he believes he's changing the music scne (As the new cancer, he is killing everyone's preconceptions about music). I thought of all this becuase the tables are numbered, like and award show, and about being a diva, because the music industryc an be so shallow about looks. I've always thought something completely different. I have always thought that this song was about being apathetic about your relationship with God, and finally seeing how upset it makes you and changing that. Then he goes on to talk about how he should care about people not being saved, and how it's frustrating that they care too much about the world, and he says that they should be apathetic, but not about God, like he used to be, they should be apathetic about the world.
I don't know... that's just what I've always understood. |
