nick, since when was ohmaha a fuck up? it was and still is recognized as the biggest and most sucessful invasion in world history. and if u didnt take time to realize, your oh so noble country had a lead role in the invasion of normandy. and if you think ohmah was a fuck up, what about all the other invasions on D-Day? paratroopers, and the other beaches. if history recorded correctly, the british forces invaded sword, gold, and juno beaches. would you call those fuck ups? next time you go and dis my country, know the facts so you dont sound like a complete retard infront of everyone when i prove you wrong.

i honostly think this is about WWII. more specificly, a german soldier's experiences and regrets. if you look at in this way, most of the lyrics fit.
"shot a mother right infront of her son"...holocaust
"I'll walk your land but don't be long, two million soldiers cant be wrong"...blitzkrieg
the whole last verse could be about a surviving soldier regretting what he had done.
i personally think all the lyrics fit into the germany WWII scenerio |

i live in N.J. so many refrences to locations bruce makes, i know about/have been there. i can say though, Asbury Park is being cleaned up (finally) and its starting to look like the old days. ive also been to the stone pony, where bruce got his start. the joint is so small, but there is just some power there that is un-explainable |

wow, i cant believe no one has left a comment. i love this song. its my favorite from The Rising.
anyway, my idea is that he is searching for something, a relationship or something else, but he cant seem to find it. "Now I been out in the desert, just doin' my time Searching through the dust, lookin' for a sign If there's a light up ahead, well brother I don't know", could mean that after searching and searching, he has finally found hope, "further up on the road" |

almost everyone is missing the point of this song.
the story behind it is that the narrator is in trouble, weather it be debt or something else. he wants to get away and start over. when he says "i met a guy and did a favor for him", it means a hit, possibly the "chicken man'' who is a mob boss. "everything dies thats a fact, but maybe everything that dies someday comes back" means that people might come after him to get revenge for the hit of their boss. "...meet me in atlantic city" and "two tickets on that coast city bus" means that he has a way to get away and he wants his significant other to be able to come with him so they can start over. |
