i'm pretty sure in the chorus he says "can you take me OFF your HEX that i'm under, come wake me up". that makes more sense! |

awesome song. i watched a live version of this song and it sounds like he says "there in/by those brake lights" where you have the ???. i'd have to agree with the rest of it, it's what i thought he was saying! |

someone on the first page said "I think it is quite clear that God is the only thing he believes in" and i don't know how they could say that considering the last lyric of the song is "i just believe in me, yoko and me, and that's reality." not god. i don't think john was a religious person at all, that was george. john was very anti-religion, just listen to working class hero or what happened with him and the maharishi. |

yeah i'm pretty sure religion has a lot to do with this album. i like that the agnostic/atheistic movement is picking up more support. |

i think he says "through glittering garlins, without even trying". its definitely not what it says up there.
but in that webclip of dave recording the vocals of this song, there was a "no on prop 8" sign behind him. and prop 8 was the ballot measure that if passed (which it did), gay people couldn't get married in CA. when i read the lyrics and really listened to them, i kinda thought the two things coincided a bit. but whatever, it's still a really cool song. i hope they play it at the hollywood bowl in august! |

call me crazy, but i'm listening to this song right now. it's been one of my favs for years, and i never really know what he said in the background of the chourses. everywhere i looked people said it was something like "fathers and the children" . but i just heard something different in my head...i think he's saying something along the lines of "influence little children". i double checked on some live videos on youtube and he sounds like he says just that, sometimes replacing it with "influencing".
what do you think? |

how about everyone shut the fuck up and discuss the meaning of the song. this is songmeanings.net after all not isrageagoodband.com. so nothingface doesn't like rage and everyone else does, big whoop. with all that's going on these days in this country and others, and Rage recently getting back together at Coachella, i think this is a great time to discuss their songs and their meanings. The reason I came to this song is because I saw footage of them playing it live at Coachella and it was great seeing everyone screaming "all hell can't stop us now" it was very inspiriting. and i think thats what rage wanted with this song, to unite and stand up for a common purpose, not fight over who's a "good" or "bad" band. so everyone calm the hell down and just talk about the music. if you don't like the band then don't post anything, or go to another forum that deals with discussing bands, this is just for songmeanings, not rage's official message board. with that said...WHAT DOES THIS SONG MEAN TO YOU ALL!??!?!?! |

| Mew – The Zookeeper's Boy Lyrics

I just discovered Mew and this is the song that realed me in. It's too pretty for it's own good. I agree that the zookeeper's boy is a metaphor for a very sensitive, sweet and sort of simple guy who goes off into the city to find a girl he loves, but he's not used to being in the city. The city could be another metaphor for just the modern world as we know it today. He might be a hopeless romantic stuck in the cruel uncaring world and he must think this girl is perfect for him, too perfect because he's just a simple guy hence the "I could not be seen with you" line (which gets me everytime). Hope that made sense to you all! |

Also, I just noticed this or else I would have posted this with the other one. I think the very last line of the song says "I hate too well". I think this also sorta fits with the song a little better. |

Ya it is a song, Maynard does sing. It's one hell of a song. When I heard this song I was Rosetta Stoned you might say, and the part about how he needs to tell the world all this important stuff but he forgot his pen and shit in the bed again. I think he's describing the "revelations" a person has when they're high, and this person ODed and is in the hospital and he's getting these revelations but he cant tell anyone cuz hes brain-dead, and "forgot his pen" and on top of that he shit the bed again.....figures |
