This song is about the death of Buddy Holy, Richie Vallens, Big Bopper, and Bob Dylan. They all died on the same plane crash. It is called American Pie because McLean once dated a winner of the Ms. America pagent. Don's only recorded job other than being a singer, was a paperboy, hence "with every paper I'd deliver". I would like to correct my self about the meaning of this song. It is about the death of all of those singers, but it is more about the decade after the death when folk music started to die and rock took over with the Rolling Stones, ect. But the beauty of this song is that it can be interperated in so many ways. It could be about all that I wrote, it could be about the death of Jesus, or it could be, as stringofpearls stated, about the assationated of JFK. |

I know that this is probably not true, but I thought that it was about the Hurricanes in September, but that is only because when I first heard it in its entirety, he said that the song goes out to all of the victims of hurricane Katrina. Oh well. |

This is one of my favorites from the play. And yes these songs do sound kind of corny when not in context, but once you watch the musical, it is beautiful. Don't diss it until you've heard it. |

This Song means exactly what it sounds like. A long time ago (50s-60s I think) life was so much simpler. Coke was Cocacola. Hoes were garden tools to till up the land. But now, Coke is a drug that you shoot up, and hoes are, well, if you live in today's world you should know what a hoe is. I just have one question. Why put in disgusting things like eating fried bologna sandwiches with mayo and tomatoes? Ewww... |
