well i think some of what is being said is pretty close to what i think the song is about.
i get the feeling of a young love, and i liked the idea of the wire lips being her mad about something leaving perhaps and he promises her that it wont happen again, that they'll be together forever and then he ends up turning his back on her
then again i see like the song being not to metaphorical (which is rarely true) and they are just young and crazy running around and get caught by the cops maybe and he says "And the concrete is fire
Where my bare feet are placed In a line next to yours" like the get caught doing something and are standing there getting in trouble by the police lets say and the police are judging them and their actions, "As those awful eyes made their claim on us" and he gets freaked out and turns and climbs a fence and leaves her their to face the consequences on her own.
it could be a combination of the two as well.
anyway agreed best song from "a collection.." he makes the scratchy poor quality of this album work for this song and it is absolutely amazing |

when i went through and read the lyrics of the whole album i did notice a sort of story but to me it seems more like a girl gets married to this guy maybe forced to and he ends up killing her

i think the "up all night" and the "no breakfast not much of an appetitie" are refering to his coke problem. thats just me. when i listen to this song i just think of the person in the song being really messed up and upset because the person he really loved left, but then at the end like most of Conor's songs he realizes that love will come around again and it all going to turn out well. |

i think the yellow bird is like a dream or something to set him free something he is waiting for to make his life complete and when she says "did you forget your yellow bird? how could you forget your yellow bird?" i think its like how could you give up on something you've wanted for so long, did you loose it in whatever your endulging yourself into (drugs,alcohol..ect.) thats what i get from it. |

but truthfully i cant even describe the image or the place this song brings me too. its like a mystical world i dont even know.
but i think alot has to do with the poem, like its written from the poem or based on it in a way.
and also like what i said before, but its so hard to describe exsactly what i think when i hear this song. its just too amazing. |

no i think that part is more like he doesnt know who he is anymore and he is destroying himself because he is so sad that this girl left him and he looks at himself realizing that what happened was not his choice and he is like you can change your ways and live or keep destroying yourself and die...is that what you want |

pvnrtnerd i like what you said about the gate its perfect.
this song always reminds me of a guy who is dying like he has limited time to live or something and arienette is his lover and she trys to take care of him but he just turns her away because he thinks she will just leave him. so she leaves and then jetsabel is a friend or a maid or something and she takes care of him and removes the things that reminds him of arienette. and until the day he dies he is reminded of her constantly
