Blindside – We're All Going To Die Lyrics 18 years ago
according to christian, the lead singer, it sort of leads up to yamkela. here's what he said:

This song was an attempt to tie together what I saw in South Africa, where young men & women are dying of AIDS and other diseases and what we have seen in Europe and America, where young men and women are also dying but from a different cause – depression and a loss of hope. The fight for life is with different enemies.

This was based on 2 different people – Yamkela a young boy we met in South Africa & friend in States. One fighting a battle with AIDS and the other fighting depression – in both continents people are dying unnecessarily young. When we wrote this there was a real fight for both their lives. But as I write this today both of them are doing much better and have been able to see that even in these desperate situations there is hope for life.

Blindside – Ask Me Now Lyrics 18 years ago
in the words of christian, the lead singer:

It is a story song and was one of the first lyrics I wrote for the album. I think at the time it was easier to write a story to try and paint a picture of an emotional state. It is not a literal picture or the story of an event – more a fictional story that reflects an emotional state. The first verse talks about being in a cabin and waiting for someone to arrive and the feeling as they approach. I didn’t want to connect the characters in this song. It is about the moment before connection. We all tend to get a picture of how something is going to be before it happens. We get an idea in our heads and when it happens that picture changes. This is about that moment You realize where you are and what is about to happen, and if you are connecting with another person you realize they have a picture and it probably isn’t the same as yours!

Blindside – Yemkela Lyrics 18 years ago
this is how christian, blindside's lead singer, described the meaning of the song:

Yemkela is a 10-year old boy. He lives on the streets of Kayamande. His mom died of aids and his dad is gone. A normal person has 1000 T cells – if you have less than 200 you have AIDS - he has 20.
When you see this kind of suffering you can choose to be numb to it or you try to open yourself to a relationship. Meeting these people first hand and experiencing these emotions you can’t go back.
But at times you feel you are going to explode. For me it felt like I had gunpowder under my skin and the slightest spark would ignite me.
The guy we stayed with in South Africa. He didn’t want to get in relationships with kids – because they die. It is just too hard. But he knew Yamkela's Mom and she died from AIDS and the Dad wasn’t around and a relative took Yemkela in but didn’t care for him and so our friend felt a responsibility for Yemkela and took care of him. That lead to the attachment that he was always concerned about. This kid was an orphan and our friend was going back to the US and was saying goodbye to this young boy he had grown so close to.
To make the story a little worse the day before he was due to leave 1000 shacks burnt down including in Kayamande. Yamkela's was one of them and so he was literally going to be on the streets. I was standing there watching these two people saying goodbye and realized that this might be their last goodbye. It is impossible to put that emotion into words.
The story actually has somewhat of a happy ending because some mutual friends took Yamkela in while our friend returned to the States and he is in the process of trying to adopt Yamkela. This record was really born in a dark place but as we have started taking it around the world we are seeing the power of hope and joy. It is possible to be in a trying times and still feel a sense of joy.

Project 86 – Breakdown In 3/4 Lyrics 18 years ago
i think this song is about leaving the bad things that happened in the past where they belong: in the past. it could also about how pop icons/stars rise and fall so quickly and how that kind of fame isnt' worth it.

Emery – To Whom It May Concern Lyrics 18 years ago
i think it's about an ex-girlfriend who the singer is still having mixed feelings about. he doesn't know if he wants to be friends or more than friends (again) with her and he's obsessing over it a little.
