Rogue Wave – Temporary Lyrics 13 years ago
Sometimes I feel so low I can't go on knowing
Hearing the howling dog sharing my moan

Upstairs an attic

Witness the bible breaking down the spine
Wind wipping through through the rain almost by design

Upstairs an attic
Angel, angel

The Black Keys – Black Door Lyrics 17 years ago
What's behind your black door?
I wanna know,
It will end my suspicion
I see it start to open
Can't you hear me, begging, "please!"

-> "and it's not morbid 't all"

"dirt in someone's eyes flies down the drain"
-> "dirt in someone's eye that's cried down the drain"

"and god's got his best friends round"
-> "and god's got his dead friends 'round"

Great Lake Swimmers – Where In The World Are You Lyrics 18 years ago
Probably my favorite GLS song.

It means a possibility of two things to me. I think it may be introspective and he is looking for himself.
"been looking in churches" --looking for himself in religion
"been looking in bars" --been looking for himself at the bottom of a bottle
"...reddened and left too" --thought he found himself but as things changed he realized he hadn't
"music and song" --where he's looking now, maybe.

Otherwise, I think it could potentially mean he's pining for his love.

This is a love song sung by a bottle to its drinker.

Alkaline Trio – Private Eye Lyrics 18 years ago
this is quite obviously about a man who is very insecure in his relationship. no trust. looking for his partner to slip up.

every line seems to be threatening the partner to make a mistake, lie, leave some evidence, he'll find it.

Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Lyrics 19 years ago
Man. If this is a letter to Elton John from Taupin, and Elton John sang this, that really makes me question whether Elton John has any idea what the songs he sang/sing mean.
Also, if this is a letter from Taupin, it seems like he's pretty much a jealous money grubber.

José González – Crosses Lyrics 19 years ago
I get some relatively specific imagery from this song. "Crosses" and "boulevard", "sirens",...
"The streets outside your window overflooded.
People staring, they know you've been broken.
Repeatedly reminded by the looks on their faces."

This really sounds to me like Gonzales is alluding to a car crash, or an accident. Perhaps the repression of this imagery by the subject person. "Crosses", to me, suggest memorial of some sort--or a gravestone.

It seems that it would be rather unprincipled of Gonzales to abruptly digress from his overwhelmingly melancholy overtones in this album with a more upbeat song. Judging from the predominantly minor chord progression and near-wailing of Gonzales, this song really says lamentation to me.
