Good rendition. It's a shame that he rewrote the chord structure. The Knife's original verses were simply two chords, Eb and Cm. Gonzales took it upon himself to add an Ab to the last line of the verses which is the most obvious, and immediately satisfying, chord progression. But one of the best parts of the original, IMHO, is that it wasn't predictable. While one might expect them to plunge into the Ab at the end of the verse, they hold the Cm, only to pull you back up to the Eb. Only in the chorus do they give us the SWEET RELEASE that is the Ab! Or maybe it's just me. |
